Kambole gets 2018 Zambia Footballer of the Year nomination

The nominees for the 2018 FAZ Awards were unveiled by Football House on Saturday.

Zesco United striker Lazarus Kambole will go head-to-head with two top-guns from the 2018 season for the Footballer of the Year Award.

Green Eagles striker Tapson Kaseba, who scored 19 goals to propel the Choma side to a debut fourth place finish, and 2018 Golden Boot winner Idris Mbombo, who top scored on 20 goals for Nkana, are the other nominees for the Footballer of the Year award.

But Mbombo will receive his Golden Boot Award in absentia after leaving Nkana in November to join Sudan club Al Hilal.

Kambole on the other hand had a magical season for both club and country.

He scored 11 league goals, 7 in the CAF Champions League and 6 for Chipolopolo in 2018 in the same year he made his Zambia debut at the 2018 CHAN tournament in Morocco.

However, two faces are missing from the Coach and Young player of the Year lists.

Napsa coach Mohammed Fathy, who steered the Lusaka club from bottom of the log to survive demotion after taking over in June, has not made the 2018 Coach Award shortlist.

Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi, Aggrey Chiyangi of Green Eagles and Red Arrows trainer Chisi Mbewe will vie for the Coach of the Year Award.

And Nkana winger Harrison Chisala has also failed to make the cut for the Young player Award.

Instead, Zesco’s Lameck Banda, Power Dynamos goalkeeper Jackson Kakunta and Kabwe Warriors defender Wayne Museba will battle for that award.
Honours will be presented on January 4 during FAZ’s annual awards Gala at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.
