Heavy downpour affects water supply in Chipata

Share

Eastern Water and Sewerage Company (EWSC) Limited says the intermittent water supply in Chipata district in Eastern Province is as a result of periodic treatment the dirty water that has continued to enter the dams due to the heavy downpours.

EWSC Public Relations Officer Moses Nsunge said the water supply has been affected because his institution has been shutting down the treatment plant in order to clean the dirty filters.

He said EWSC is doing these periodic shutdowns to ensure that its customers receive quality, clean and safe water.

During an interview today with ZANIS, Mr Nsunge said EWSC prioritizes the safety of all its clients because the last time the water was this dirty was in 2016.

He said the water utility company is spending a lot of money in treating the water in order to fulfill its mandate of controlling the supply of quality and safe water to prevent any disease outbreaks.

Meanwhile, Mr Nsunge has cautioned members of the public against illegally connecting to the water supply network after closure due to failing to settle outstanding bills.

He appealed to members of the public to report anyone found tempering with property belonging EWSC.

Mr Nsunge said anyone found illegally connecting to the EWSC water supply will face prosecution by law.

  1. A case of poor design and lack of rain harvesting techniques…how can dirty water enter the dams where do these dam get water in the first place.

    • With a lot of bridges and roads being washed away, you wonder why this PF government insists on low quality dodgy workmanship, at exorbitant prices.

It is like the PF think Zambia is the only country that gets heavy rains. Go to India, then you will understand what heavy rains are. And yet their roads still stand decades later.

Zambian roads/bridges start falling apart days after Lungu commissions them.

  2. A case of idi.ocy and poor planning. What an excuse to deny people water. This is pure rubbish and to announce such shows stu.pidity at its highest levels.
Besides what heavy rains can we talk about in Zambia sure. These drizzles you call rain are just a footnote in some countries like India and China not to mention Korea and USA.
    What a disaster!!!!!
