Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya says an operation on the child embedded with needles and wires in his body will be conducted on January 7, 2019.

Richard Zulu aged three who is undergoing specialized treatment at University Teaching Hospital (UTH) was evacuated on December 9, last year following a directive from President Edgar Lungu.

Dr. Chilufya has disclosed in an interview with ZANIS that Surgeons at UTH are set to carry out an operation on the minor.

The child who earlier had 44 needles in his body ,had 25 of them removed at Chipata General Hospital in Eastern Province while the remainder got referred to University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.

Following the recommended weight gain by the Hospital management before the operation could be done, the minister now says the remaining 19 needles would hopefully be removed next week on Monday.

Recently, a three-year-old boy has been found with 36 needles embedded in his body, a bizarre case that puzzled both medical staff and police officers in Chipata .

Chipata Central Hospital senior medical superintendent Mbinga Mbinga who described the condition of the boy as stable a needle was removed adding that the boy could not be operated on to remove all the needles as he severely malnourished.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chilufya has disclosed that investigations are under way for a male nurse in Southern province who allegedly uttered tribal remarks on a named mother who was nursing a baby.

Dr. Chilufya regretted the incident and urged health personnel to exhibit high levels of professionalism in line with their calling of serving patients.

  1. Show us the picture so that we believe . Why are you hiding the needles.

Is it sewing needles or injection needle or wires . Stop making public announcements if you cant display the foreign materials.

In Gwembwe somebody posted a picture of a ghost worker at night holding some ones baby. Very chilling episode even for those that doubted the story at first.

    • Why has PF taken over the child, he was doing better in Chipata.
They should not tell us that the child costed them $2 million.

    • ANyone with information on this boy’ story? what happened to him to have needles and wires in his body? God will not forgive us please.

  2. ZNBC showed the X-ray with needles on the 19 hours news yesterday. The mother and father of this child should be interrogated.
