Mbombo wins 2018 FAZ Player Award

Ex-Nkana striker Idriss Mbombo was on Friday night named 2018 Zambian player of the year during the FAZ awards gala night in Lusaka.

Congolese Mbombo, who is now playing for Sudanese giants Al Hilal, shrugged off stiff competition from Zesco United striker Lazarous Kambole and forward Tapson Kaseba of Green Eagles.

He scored 26 goals in all competition during his season long loan stint at Nkana last year to emerge league top scorer.

Elsewhere on the night, Green Eagles trainer Aggrey Chiyangi won the coach of the year award after edging Nkana’s Beston Chambeshi and Chisi Mbewe of Red Arrows.

Power Dynamos creative midfielder Larry Bwalya scooped the award for the most disciplined player and his team mate keeper Jackson Kakunta was voted young player of the year.

The referee of the year award went to Gladys Lengwe of Kitwe with Kalulushi’s Chansa Kabwe emerging as the best assistant referee.

Meanwhile, Zambia football great Fred Mwila Snr walked away with the FAZ President’s award.
