The Zambia Police Service in Luapula says the province recorded a significant reduction in the levels of crime during the year 2018.
Disclosing the development to ZANIS in Mansa yesterday, Luapula Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi says a reduction of 16% was recorded and attributed this to measures put in place by the police command in the province.
Mr. Chushi says the police have come up with different measures which have helped in preventing crime among them the community crime prevention (CCPU), recruiting local people as police reserves, and educating the local people on certain crimes.
The commissioner stated that the police will continue putting up interventions and will this year include schools to educate pupils in crime prevention.
He explained that police have also come up with a drama group which will help to educate the public in cases such as Gender Based Violence (GDV), and defilement and witchcraft.
When I was growing up in Luapula even using a canoe without the owner’s permission was a serious crime.
