Ex-Nchanga Rangers and Zambia U20 coach Hector Chilombo has passed away.

His brother Dennis Sikazwe confirmed that Chilombo died in the early hours of Thursday morning at University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.

“It is true that my young brother Mr. Hector Chilombo has died. He died this morning around 04h00 at University Teaching Hospital,” Sikazwe said.

Chilombo steered the Zambia Under 20 to successful qualification to the 2015 U20 AFCON in Senegal where they made a first round exit.

This is after earlier winning gold with the team at the 2014 Zone Five Games football tournament in Zimbabwe.

His last posting was a brief stint at demoted Nchanga Rangers in the 2018 season.

Chilombo also coached City of Lusaka, Forest Rangers, Napsa Stars, Indeni and Power Dynamos.

  1. SAD,my sympathy to his family.LT poor reporting,best would have been,played for the national team,he has left behind,wife,#of kids.etc

    • @planzo, I feel your frustrations too. But asking LT to do anything even close to or something that resembles real journalism is probably asking too much.

Well maybe they do and LT is just lazy, but I can not understand why FAZ doesn’t have a readily available electronic archive/record for EVERYTHING ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL AND ITS HISTORY on line. This would be a great resource for interested people and organizations such as media houses. In an era of The Internet, one would think accurate and detailed account of every player to ever have played for any team in Zambia, under FAZ or it’s former versions, would only be a click away…..but noooo! Given the importance and popularity of Football in Zambia, this is inexcusable on the part of FAZ. Other Associations around the world are pretty…

    • Continue….

good at keeping records, statistics, and everything football within their jurisdictions. Also making that information readily available to the public….FAZ wake up!

  2. I agree with Yambayamba 100%.Our currrent and past stars will be forgotten forever as there are no official publications in place. We have a lot of journalists even veterans who can contribute to such publications. Just a few years ago we failed to prove the claim that Godfrey Ucar Chitalu had scored 107 goals in a single season… a feat which the whole world should have celebrated had we had proper records!
Talking of Bamudala Ba Hector and for the information of those who might not know like some bloggers on this forum, Hector Chilombo was one of the best defending midfielders the football world in Zambia has seen. THOSE who grew up in Kalulushi will tell you that before He went into coaching he did play for the Kalulushi Council Team which was a Division 1 and 2 outfit. I…

  3. Continued………I watched Hector play for Kalulushi Modern Stars, playing alongside John Soko, Gibby Mbasela, Chris Mwango, Richard Sikanyika, Levi Chilufya, Buffalo Mukuka, Moses Power Lungu, Bibo Kabinga, Abraham Lungu, Goalie Mwape…….these were some of the men who played top flight football during the glory days of the mighty ZCCM. LATER He played for Profound Warriors and the Zambia National Team.
