President Edgar Lungu has called on Zambians to change their mindset towards prevailing high levels of violence. President Lungu said that Zambia has enough electoral laws that can help address issues of violence.

Speaking on arrival from Livingstone at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, President Lungu also appealed to stakeholders to come on board and help address the issues of violence before the 2021 general elections.

President Lungu said the recent violence in Sesheke needs to be addressed and not left to worsen. The President said a clique behind the violence is known and there is need to devise ways to change their mindset.

The President who arrived at 18:25 hours was received by Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri, Service Chiefs and Senior Government officials.

Meanwhile, United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has told the people of Katima Mulilo ward of Sesheke constituency that guns and machetes on innocent people, are used by clueless people, in reference to violence he alleged was started by PF cadres.

Mr Hichilema told the voters that their job was to work flat out to kick out any traces of PF in the Sesheke constituency, adding that where PF take guns take guns, UPND will take will take love and development.

“Zambia does not need guns to fight poverty, it needs men and women with valour to redeem its run down economy and we can state here that we are part of such a progressive team,” Mr Hichilema wrote

Mr Hichilema concluded his message by urging voters to vote against the gun and brutal culture in order to prove UPND people power, their power and their land.

And the Electoral Commission of Zambia has said that Sesheke Constituency in Western Province has a total of 27,872 Registered Voters, 43 Polling Stations and 52 Polling Streams. Seven (7) out of these forty-three (43) polling stations are not easily accessible.

In a statement released to the media, the Commission said that the election results for the seven (7) polling stations will only be available on Wednesday 13th February, 2019.

The affected polling stations are either serviced by Chopper which is unable to fly at night or accessible via the Zambia-Namibia Border that closes at 18:00 hours.

The Commission further said that the Zambia-Namibia Border will be used due to the inaccessible road access on the Zambian side, adding that that the election results would have been endorsed by political party agents and other accredited observers once the count is concluded.

The polling stations referred to are as follows:

Serviced by Air Transport: Sonso School, Katete Community School and Mandila Community School;

Accessible through Zambia-Namibia Border: Mbao Community School, Imusho Primary School, Chivula Primary School and Maunga SDA Church which are all in Imusho Ward.

Due to this, the declaration for the Sesheke Parliamentary By-Election will be on 13th February, 2019.

The Commission appealed for peace and calm during Poll Day, during the Count of the result and in turn the final declaration of the winner of the Sesheke Parliamentary By-Election.

    • UPND also should be more smart, how could they hide HH in bush like Kagame?
Zambian politicians are smart, I can’t imagine who can go in bush, not even Savior Chishimba.
Zambian bush are full of snakes and bees.

    • Another PF in action. Emmerson Mnangagwa’s in law, Terence Mukupe has in a video recorded, confessed that the youths who were injured while looting during the January mayhem, were sent by ZANU PF.
He described them as Zanu PF children dispatched on mission from the ZANU PF headquarters.
Said Mukupe: “Those who are saying the youths were looting, down with them. They didn’t even care to get close to the incidents to see for themselves. How can your own kids be injured, and you fail to rise up to go and find out what has happened?
“And you find out on your own instead of relying on social media. When our children were at headquarters, at ZANU PF HQ. No one bothered to even get there and that is how you see that some people are merely interested in getting positions. So the matter here…

So the matter here is, in my own books the youths who were injured Are Heroes to me.
“And I said it at Jekerere. When I said this, they started sending me messages telling me to behave (get back into line). You must support this person (nhingi). We want to pass a vote of no confidence on Emmerson Mnangagwa. If you do not do what we are telling you, you already know what we did to the late Gen. Mujuru.
“And I said that when I joined these things I did not do it in order to seek to breathe. I got in because I have faith in this thing that is called zanu-pf. I did not put my faith in a human being.
“So the issue is the person who is ruling, the person who was chosen by the people I know him. For you to say that you want to burn me inside my house my address I give it all to you…

    • Mr president, you will leave a good legacy that will go into the history of Zambia as a country. You will be remembered for championing the following:
1.Promoting cholera by eating unwashed mangoes in public
      2. Dancing in public to celebrate mayhems that take place during byelections
3.Leader of the most violent party in Zambian history
      4. Promotor of corruption and thefty
      5. The only president with no vision but you have a combined team of advisers with no knowhow and illitrates.
Created Christian for Lungu to champion own agenda.

    • Here arrived at 18:25, in Zambian time that is night. And they have allowed Mumbi Phiri to take care of Ba Edgar at night. Ati there is nothing going between

    • By Prof Michelo Hansungule
If you know Edgar Lungu as I do, you can’t doubt HHs tweet yesterday Sunday 10th February which he sent from Sesheke that Edgar Lungu attempted to assassinate him.
I was briefly in nearby Livingstone having crossed from a SADC Judges Forum meeting at which I was presenting just across at the Zimbabwe side of the Victoria Falls. I heard the information of an attempted assassination at ‘Kuma loan compound’ my taxi driver drove me through back to the Falls. One of the occupants of the taxi had personal knowledge of the Sesheke shootings and related all to us.
I want to say this. This is the work of Edgar Lungu. I know him very well and know what he is capable of doing. You can doubt me at your peril. The entire incident smacks the hallmark of Edgar. Let no…

… Let no politician in Zambia fool themselves. Edgar is just this.
Try and threaten his grip on illegally acquired power, he will burn you alive. If you doubt this, try pose a real threat to him and see if you will have opportunity to see. I have personal knowledge of Edgar and what he is capable of doing to keep what he got illegally. Make no doubt about it, what happened and what is happening in Sesheke is exactly Edgar Lungu at play.
Did you see the irony though? In the Saturday edition of the Zambia Daily Mail, Edgar is quoted as appealing to PF and UPND party cadres to not resort to violence. He is quoted as saying he and HH and examples of the peace he was preaching, that the two do not resort to violence.
Very good stuff, all very good stuff! But don’t be…

  1. Should be Friday the 13th, not Wednesday from the slaughter going on!

The quicker we bang this one out the better, so we get law and order back.

  2. A bat gives a statement at airport, when he is aware that , the violence is done by his party PF . when he is on stage he behaves like he is good . stop behaving like a bat, moreover you did not win 2016 election you stoled even your heart knows.you are calling stakeholders to end violence when you are busy running away from the dialogue.pf is a tribal party in Zambia.

  3. PF have no much interest in Sesheke seat because this was a UPND seat in a bantustan region. This is the major reason why HH has spent a month campaigning in Sesheke while president Edgar Lungu only went there for a day!!!
PF’S MAIN INTEREST IS TO RETAIN A BAHATI SEAT IN MANSA DURING A BY ELECTION COMING UP SOON.Am pretty sure that HH wont spend a month campaigning in Mansa because even if did that,PF will 100% retain the Bahati seat-period!!!THIS IS A HARSH REALITY FOR KAINDE AS HIS UPND CANT SIMPLY WIN IN 6.5 PROVINCES NOW OR IN 2021-MARK MY WORDS!!!
At ward level, expect PF to win in Chililabombwe,Eastern,Muchinga, etc tomorrow!!

    • You are.providing stats for the mindlessness of the Zambian electorate.

It is a shame that no matter how much a politician messes up, voters will mind.

This renders voting a meaningless political exercise, really.

  4. Misguided opinion Bwana Lungu . America has dozens of laws, checks and tight regulations to deal with gun violence but it still happens with shocking consequences .

  5. Lungu knows the definition of violence is associated with this so called Minister Steven Kampyongo. President Lungu must tame Kampyongo and his fellow thugs no need to pretend about it. Machets and all sorts of weapons are carried by the PF cadres but suprising the president finds it easy to point fingers at the opposition when his own team is maiming people. What kind of father of the nation is Mr Lungu? A father gets concerned when children of the same family starts to fight but this father one not worthy having.

  6. Trib.al Jay Gay and his “lazy” Lungu trade mark. Which one is better? For me, its a no brainer, anything trib.al is a non starter!

  7. Lungu supports this violence….he and kapoyongo know exactly who the firearm wielding PF caders are.

All lungu has to do is make one phone call and there will be no violence…..

As we said, if lungu is popular and won without rigging as he claims, there is no need for him to use guns, teargas and his pf police to harass the opposition…..

let the people vote of their free will…

  8. Foolish! Why don’t you denounce violence before going for election? Why don’t you denounce violence at your rallies? After people are injured, threatened and killed then you come and say bla, bla bla!! ***** !!

  9. Bola naikosa! The Head of State going back to the same area to campaign twice! PF can never win in Sesheke unless they rig. And what about those revelations that went viral by Kalulushi Mayor that some ballot papers were buried at the cemetery in Kalulushi in the 2016 elections? I’m not surprised at all. The irregularities in those elections were very obvious

    • Problem you don’t know what’s on the ground. upnd has had that seat since 2016 and have done nothing. Then they go and choose an unpopular candidate who even has a police case pending. PF saw an opportunity and went flat out to campaign. Even the upnd grassroots are not happy with their party’s conduct. hh smelt defeat, like what happened in Chilanga, and went to cause confusion so to frustrate PF. hh is badly losing focus.

    • Zambians on the streets, Zambians everywhere understand that it takes two to tango. They know this violence is double sided. So hh’s s.t.u.p1d reasoning is very childish. Trying to blame PF for his failures is only making him look f.0.0.lish. Isn’t he the one who rushed to RSA to the mining indaba only to be made to look like a confused gate crasher??? Then he rushes back and unleashes his tantrums on Sesheke so he can con the international community for sympathy???

  10. How Mr Pombe ?
Say you have enough thugs around you to subdue the law.
You are the chief law breaker Jonathan.
People now know you for who you are.

    • ….and there ain’t nothing you vulgar bubbleheads and failures going to do about it except cry like under 5s….kwekwekwekwekwekwe….
