Don’t to allow briefcase buyers to exploit, HH tells small holder farmers

Share

UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has advised small holder farmers not to allow briefcase buyers to exploit them as they embark on harvesting of their various crops from the last farming season.

Reports from Eastern and Southern Province indicate that farmers are already selling their produce including maize and soya beans at very low prices.

Mr Hichilema has requested farmers to consider their household consumption levels first before selling any excess crops.

He noted that rain patterns are very unpredictable nowadays hence the need for extra caution before they sell their crops.

Mr Hichilema said government should equally move in quickly in mopping up excess crops for stocking up on strategic food reserves to avert hunger in Zambia.

He said the cost of fertilizer and other inputs are very high, hence the need for favorable prices that would enable farmers to survive.

  6. “He said the cost of fertilizer and other inputs are very high, hence the need for favorable prices that would enable farmers to survive.”
But then this is the same person crying wolf that the price of mealie meal is way too high!
We have politicized the maize/mealie meal issue.. Government should allow the farmers to recover a fair share of their input by allowing them to export their produce when they can’t buy off the entire stock. We know that GRZ officials deliberately restrict issuance of export licenses because they are the same officials in the forefront of buying from the farmers on the cheap and only for them to end up exporting the maize to Malawi and DRC.
Badala, these peasants have a myriad of immediate pressing problems they can’t plan beyond today. Hence they will…

  7. will sell all they have to sponsor a child to university even when there is no guarantee of a job upon graduation. The best you can do is show us the way by setting up a parallel FRA?FISP where you can offer superior conditions as your party espouses. I can assure you that once this succeeds, you won’t need to campaign. It will be a given!!!
The same goes for the corruption claims, please institute parallel investigations and come with irrefutable evidence. Don’t take it to any government investigative wings avail it to the Zambian people, they will judge. By the way, with abated breath, we still await the names of ministers who were trying to bribe UPND members to vote for Bill 10. are

  8. KZ insulting well meaning citizens will not insulate you as public enemy of Zambia. You or impostor, Zambians will not forget that you have harassed, beaten, maimed, humiliated, kidnapped, fired guns and shot Zambians and dehumanise Zambians. Zambians deserve justice and time is coming to get it. Cleansing yourself on this site will not wash up, records, living witnesses exist and testimonies will be in your face.

  9. KZ grow up. Your body is aging yet your brain remains stagnant at the age of 16. You cry privatisation all the time yet all govt machinery are in your hands why not arrest HH and prosecute him, for almost 10 years you have been singing the same privatisation song to the point it’s now become irritating to people’s ears like the sound of mosquitoes. If there are thieves zambians should be pursuing it is you the PF. HH has never held the instruments of power for him to be blamed for privatisation, the founding father of PF was part of that cabinet that sold the mines yet I never heard him say anything on privatisation to implicate HH.

  10. To all my sisterhoods & brotherhoods, hoping you safe & protecting ourselves & your loved ones. I consider myself an independent until now, i believe in natural law. Equality to human kind, seek for dignity.

Mr. K. Zulu my brother, if you allow me to address you so. My point is that, if we seek to be positive mentors or good community governing to those who are voiceless & may be with less privilege with the level of viewing the knowledge with economical & global ecological system we currently living with. May be we should try to do our best not to belittle, bully …insult those who we may not favor, especially on platforms like such. Such has creating bitter agitation, or squeezing others against a sharp wall, “showing to be a better than persona”, kind off. I personally don’t…

  11. Some farmers are very dullo!
How do you sell cheaply what you sweated to produce at a high cost?
This is where we need Bally who understands business so that he can teach our farmers how to manage their farms as businesses!
