Stop Brutal Attacks Against Women-UPND

...says trend has potential to erode women's confidence in politics

Share

United Party for National Development (UPND) Lusaka Province Women’s Chairperson, Rosa Zulu has called for an immediate end to the widespread barbaric and brutal attacks on women in the country.

Reacting to the humiliating treatment of the incarcerated National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili’s wife, Carol on Tuesday, Mrs. Zulu said the dehumanizing manner in which Mrs. Kambwili and her daughter were treated was an afront on the well-being of women in the country.

According to video footage that has caused a stir on social media and received widespread condemnation from the larger Zambian society, Mrs Kambwili is seen being visibly brutalized and stripped necked by overzealous Police officers at Lusaka’s Magistrates Complex on Tuesday.

Mrs. Zulu charged that the trend had the potential to reverse the tremendous strides that the country had made towards the emancipation of women.

The visibly shaken and seemingly traumatized Zulu, who witnessed both the attacks on Ms Kambwili on Tuesday and the subsequent brutal attack on Kanyama Constituency Chairperson for Gender, Ronica Musomela, today, said that she was at pains to understand where the country was headed.

She has since called on the Police to stop being used as tools of violence and oppression not only on women but also on those opposed to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) rule.

    • Imagine there’s been no comment from Lungu, Dora or that minister of religion. The PF and its government are happy as long as this is happening to their enemies. They are indeed happy with their police haranguing women.

  5. Typical predictable upnd f00ls. An obese elephant from UK comes here to beat our officers and is treated as any resisting arrest would be, and yet the upnd see this as a political opportunity.

  6. Iye, ite please am glad the bible shapes every day. Your utterances are so careless that even the devil marvels at product of your mouth. Are you surely telling me that the honourable ladies including our mothers dress to undress at any moment?

Please strive to educate people using your energy.

    I wish you well.

  8. Ba Zulu, surely take a leaf and imagine the energy you direct in formulating these articles were directed in building weak/venerable people in society. I can assure that it would be an insurmountable development in both social and economical of the giver lives.

Tone down baba. We are one Zambia and one nation
Spare the kambwilis coz at this hour they need you. Weather convicted or not let’s not kill them however encourage them to abide by the laws of the land. Hey even the Bible demonstrated that every live matters hence saving the criminal on the cross.

    I wish you well.

  9. On the contrary, it is this regime, which is working hard for women empowerment and welfare. The latest Chilubi bye-elections are the example of Government’s commitment to the cause of women. Opposition should stop cribbing and get to some real work.

  10. Connecting what happened with Mrs Carol Kambwili to every woman in Zambia and claim that they are suffering brutalities is the wildest of imagination, I have ever seen. Hope Mrs Zulu knows what Mrs Kambwili did that resulted in the police action.

  11. Mrs Kambwili was not stripped naked. Please don’t mislead the people. The video of the incident is available for everyone to check. Her cloths moved because of the scuffle. Police didn’t do it intentionally.

  12. I can’t see what might be achieved by expressions of outrage in the media – at what has been termed ‘police brutality’. I think the best approach to effect change…if that’s what’s required, would be to engage government and top brass in the police. But, it is obvious, relations between the police and citizens are at tenterhooks & in peril – the situation needs addressing. It would also help not to exaggerate beyond what actually happened in the ‘Carol Kambwili’ tussle.
