Mufulira District Commissioner, Mike Manda has condemned the fracas that erupted on Saturday when Zambia National Service (ZNS) officers and Zambia Police Officers engaged in a fight following allegations that some ZNS Officers were engaged in mealie meal smuggling.

Mr. Manda explained that the fight occurred when Patriotic Front (PF) cadres mounted a roadblock along Mokambo road in a bid to stop a mealie meal smuggling operation which they believed was about to be carried out by some ZNS officers.

He said the roadblock was then disturbed by ZNS officers from Mokambo border, leading to a fight between the cadres and the men in uniform.

Mr Manda narrated that police officers who passed by the scene rescued the PF cadres from the hands ZNS which led to another fight between police and ZNS officers.

Mr.Manda has since condemned the fighting as the two departments are supposed to provide security for the district.

Mr.Manda said men and women in uniform are supposed to show exemplary behavior and uphold integrity.

He also expressed concern at continued allegations that ZNS officers stationed at Mokambo border were engaged in mealie meal smuggling.

Mr. Manda warned of stern action against any officer found engaging in mealie meal smuggling.

“Let me warn the officers; whether Zambia Police, ZNS, or any civil servant found engaging in smuggling or aiding smugglers will be dealt with severely,” he said.

“Whether it’s firing them and arresting them, we are going to do that,” Mr. Manda said.

The District Commissioner said he has since instructed that both ZNS and Zambia Police Officers should man the border to curb mealie meal smuggling.

  2. This one time PF cadres and the police are on the correct side of things. ZNS do not let us down, the army can very easily guard Zambia’s borders. Apart from that this is pure and nice comedy kikikiki.

  5. Let the rightful authorities look into this issue. I have already commissioned an internal investigation into this matter with our SG. At this stage it is folly to label those involved as pf cadres until the facts are ascertained under an independent investigation. A lot of people are committing crimes under the disguises of being pf cadres and yet we know they are paid to say they are pf by a very desperate upnd hyena who knows the privatisation doors are slowly closing in on him

  6. So how did cadres know that a truck carrying smuggled maize was coming their way …this is a cases of thieves trying to do one on the other thieves…I mean what authority were they using to mount roadblocks , we have seen this with Mukula trucks being impounded only to be given to cadres.
    Anyway this is the lawlessness under Lazy Lungu era. imagine 5 more years of this …cadres will be working in your homes eatting your food and taking your wives and daughters to the master bedroom.

    This is what happens when the position of DC is filled by Political cadres ..I mean where in the report does it say civil servants he is fearing mentioning cadres.

  15. Under which authority are PF cadres using to mount road blocks? Mealie meal is a commodity in high demand in DRC yet nothing has been formalized over so many years for trade to flourish. Let the Copperbelt cross border traders equally enjoy privileges as their counterparts on the southern border!

  24. The problem we have is that the our security services have been taken over by cadres. Cadres are now in uniform. And all this recruitment of cadres was started by KAIZER. These men in uniform are PF cadres and that is why many Tongas and Lozis in the secusity services have been retired in national interest. God help Zambia
