UPND reports Munir Zulu to Police for hate Speech

Share

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has reported ruling Patriotic Front (PF) member and President Lungu’s close associate, Munir Zulu to the Police for championing divisive and hate speech.

In a recent interview with Muvi TV, Mr Zulu allegedly told an interviewer that “minority groups in Zambia cannot be allowed to rule over majority groups”, sentiments that has prompted UPND National Youth Secretary, Samuel Ngwira to lodge in a complaint at Lusaka’s Central Police Station.

In an interview shortly after lodging in a complaint to the Police, Mr Ngwira stated that the “unwarranted” remarks by Mr Zulu had the potential to plunge the Zambia into chaos and resultantly plunge her in flames.

“…Munir Zulu has issued derogatory statements that are also based on hate speech. So, as UPND, we found it necessary to come and report Mr Zulu to the Police for such criminality because in this era and age, we can’t afford to start discriminating against the weak and the strong-the tall and the short; the majority and the minority! Zambia is one and no one should claim that they are the majority,” he said.

Mr Ngwira also described as “strange” the PF’s seeming inability to dissociate itself from the divisive remarks.

“We find it extremely strange that no single statement has come from the PF trying to disassociate themself from Mr Zulu’s remarks. But we are not surprised because we know that this has been the PF’s agenda…where they have been trying to promote tribal talk and divide the people. This is what the PF has been all about,” he said.

He, however, described the Police’s uneasiness to handle the matter as unfortunate, adding that the Police kept tossing them from one office to the other for fear of being fired.

“Unfortunately, we have been tossed from one office to the other because the officers where so scared and afraid to handle this issue they term political especially coming from the opposition (like UPND),” he said.

Mr Ngwira appealed to Zambians across the country to take charge and ensure that anyone issuing hate speech and tribal remarks is reported to the police because that can be a recipe for dividing and creating hate among ethnic groups which should not be tolerated

  1. What of “ONLY A TONGA MUST LEAD UPND” says Sejani or “IT IS NOW TIME FOR A TONGA TO RULE” says Munkombwe. Can someone tell me if these two politicians were reported to the police for their tribal sentiments.

  3. An interview I watched which was taken out of context. He said minority can’t rule majority. The presenter kept forcing tribe into it. It’s TRUE that to rule this country you need majority votes like the pf have. So how can a minority party like upnd expect to win and rule Zambia. Let us be mature. Can upnd concentrate on selling their tribal party

  8. I don’t see the crime here. I thought that the very basis of Democracy is to have the majority to rule other than vice versa. In a Democracy, the majority wins. Democracy cannot allow the minority to rule. Bare in mind that minority does not imply tribe, gender, creed, religion or region. Its ideology.

  9. Reporting Mr. Munir Zulu to the police for his recent remarks will not yield anything its sheer waste of time. The best Mr. Ngwira should have have done is just to rebuff such statements and continue explaining to the Zambian voters how the UPND is going to sort many challenges that the country is faced with. Its like our friend in UPND are getting preoccupied with small things that will not deliver victory. Munir Zulu is like any other cadre, he is not even an MCC , please go for bigger things which matter to deliver victory. This is election year and people will say all sorts of things which pleases their parties.

  10. UPND needs to chill sometimes, or at the very least, consult their many lawyers before rushing to the police.
They seem not to understand what hate speech is. Saying a minority group cannot rule over a majority group is not tribal in that it doesn’t subject any particular group to hatred or ridicule.
And our 50+1 rule in the constitution embodies the rule of majority, giving credence to Zulu’s statement.
With that being said Munir Zulu is as nonsensical as they come, fighting with police and he supports Lungu simply because he is an easterner.
This also shows why we don’t need cybersecurity law if we can already sue for ‘hate speech’.

  12. But while Ka Munir Zulu is a ka pompous PF cadre the ka chap is wise, find time to watch his interviews, this small boys spills out a lot of sense, especially compared to his ***** and very dull brother Kaizer Zulu, that is why Edgar did not consider Kaizer for a MCC position.

  13. He particularly made reference to Rwanda which is quite divisive. Our forefathers stood shoulder to shoulder for Zambia’s independence, KK’s first cabinet ministers were drawn from a cross section of tribes in Zambia. How have other tribes become insignificant to the cause or leadership of Zambia? There are many good examples across Africa of leaders who have performed well but were from minority tribes, because their nations chose them and looked up to them based on leadership qualities they presented and development agenda . e.g. in South Africa Mandela was not from the largest ethnic group but remains celebrated by all tribes for bringing unity. Zuma is from the largest tribe and the record he has left is there for everyone to see, still facing corruption charges etc. Let us look…

  14. Let us look beyond tribe but quality if Zambia is to prosper and progress. Down with tribalism and hate speech.

  15. A tribal party crying about alleged tribalism. What a world we live in. Upnd want a minority to rule country. Is this democracy?

  16. Minority GROUPS and NOT A GROUP so he meant POLITICAL PARTIES and not not a POLITICAL PARTY then why should this only affect upnd? And I think the best way chilwa could have done is to report mr zulu to police in his on personal capacity as a zambian citizen coz zulu didn’t specify which political party

  17. Every tribe in Zambia is a minority group. When Mazoka Kambela was the leader of UPND, the party had national rainbow character appeal. Until the party became tribal and in ushered Hakainde Hichilema (HH) as successor: Tonga to Tonga inheritance.
That’s why currently in the absence of HH, Jack Mwiimbu (deputised by Garry Nkombo) is acting presdo instead of Mutale Nalumango from Luapula as normally expected. Tonga tribe tag never came from Zambians but UPND.

  18. FOXES DONT HUNT. THEY JUST FOLLOW REAL HUNTERS SUCH AS LIONS AND LEOPARDS CLOSELY IN THE HOPE OF EATING REMAINS OR CAUSING THEM TO SOMEHOW PANIC SO THAT THEY CAN STEAL THE MEAL. SO FOXES ARE CUNNING CRIMINALS WHO DONT HUNT BUT STILL FIND FOOD TO EAT. THE SAME APPLIES TO SMALL TIME POLITICIANS WHO CAUSE NOISE USUALLY THRO VIOLENCE SO THAT THEY CAN BE GIVEN SOME CRUMBS FROM SOME BIG BWANA’S TABLE. IGNORE THEM TOTALLY AFTER REPORTING THEM TO POLICE FOR RECORD SAKE.

  19. time will come when it will be you to be reporting to the police. Time changes , what you are today might not be what you will be tomorrow. Hope Kaizer and his fellow criminals has heard
