Patriotic Front (PF) member of Parliament Brian Mundubile has declared his readiness to lead the opposition into the 2026 general election, saying the United Party for National Development (UPND) government has “completely failed” to deliver on its promises. Speaking on Hot FM’s Red Hot Breakfast programme, the Mporokoso MP expressed that Zambians are weary of economic hardship, rising poverty, and unemployment. He argued that the current administration has lost touch with ordinary citizens and needs to be replaced by leaders with a people-centred agenda. To illustrate his point, he recounted stories from everyday Zambians struggling to make ends meet, emphasizing the growing frustration among the populace. Moreover, he highlighted the need for accountability, urging citizens to be more engaged in the political process to ensure their voices are heard.
Mundubile told listeners he was driven by a desire to serve the country and correct what he called the government’s failures. “The UPND has failed to inspire the people of Zambia,” he said. He discussed specific instances where the government had promised development but failed to deliver, such as in infrastructure and healthcare. “I have looked at the gaps and many failures on the part of government and realised that I can make a difference. My first goal is to put Zambia first and prioritise Zambians,” Mundubile asserted. He proposed detailed plans for reforms in education and healthcare, committing to ensure that every Zambian has access to quality services.
He said rural areas remain trapped in poverty despite successive anti-poverty programmes. “Poverty levels average 50 to 60 per cent, but in Mporokoso, Kasama and other rural areas, it is as high as 76 per cent. Whatever you do, you need solutions that create employment,” he added. Mundubile elaborated on various initiatives he intends to implement, such as microfinance programs aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs and enhancing agricultural productivity. He believes that investing in rural development is crucial for the overall economic growth of the nation, and he shared success stories of individuals who have transformed their lives through such initiatives.
The law-maker criticised the government for failing to generate jobs or expand opportunities for youth and women. He stated that economic injustices and division had left citizens hopeless and called for mobilisation to remove the UPND from office next year. Mundubile highlighted the importance of creating a conducive environment for business and entrepreneurship, advocating for policies that support small and medium enterprises. He expressed concern over the youth unemployment crisis in Zambia, proposing partnerships with private sector stakeholders to facilitate job creation and skill development programs.
Mundubile said his ambition to lead the PF and contest the presidency remained intact following the death of former president Edgar Lungu in June. He promised to pursue policies that encourage investment in agriculture and mining to achieve sustainable employment and poverty reduction. He explained how these sectors could be catalysts for economic transformation by attracting both local and foreign investments. Furthermore, he pledged to implement reforms that ensure the equitable distribution of resources generated from these industries, prioritizing the needs of vulnerable communities.
He also urged opposition parties to present a united front based on shared patriotism and service to the nation. “This ambition is driven by patriotism,” he said. “We need leaders who will prioritise the country before themselves.” Mundubile emphasized the need for collaboration among various political entities to enhance democratic governance and effectiveness in addressing the nation’s challenges. He expressed hope for a new political culture that promotes transparency and accountability, inviting citizens to hold their leaders to higher standards.
Mundubile’s declaration sets the stage for intense competition within the PF as the party seeks to rebuild after Lungu’s death and re-establish itself as a credible alternative to the ruling UPND. He outlined his vision for the party, focusing on revitalizing its grassroots network and engaging with voters to restore trust and confidence in the political system. As the 2026 elections approach, Mundubile remains committed to championing the interests of the Zambian people and hopes to foster a political environment that encourages active participation and informed decision-making among citizens. Ultimately, his goal is to create a Zambia where every citizen can thrive, and he believes that with the right leadership, this vision is attainable. mundubile

He is saying the right things manje the party he serves has already shown Zambians what it is capable of. Holding a corpse for political mileage; the cadres; that culture of vayolenci which reared its ugly head again at the Tonse wreck last week scares most Zambians. Zambians are a people that love peace.
Please come and end loadshedding since there is no rain in Dubai, Come and also check the cyber laws which were supposed to be abolished upon assuming government, also come and remove the middle men in fuel procurement so that the K12 fuel can kick in

Zedians are very wide awake, it’s has been coming quickly to that sense of realization about tue big difference between campaigning and leading. Ba Mundubile, you’re an incapable man when it comes to leadership and credibility. Thanks but no.
No no I’m pretty sure an Independant candidate is going to be put forward Seeing upnd wont listen to the cries of the people, and refuse to accept a challenger from within be put forward.
It will be a new dawn for crumbling democracy

Clarify what wechipumbu we. Thanks for confessing that you need thinkers. Not imwe ba UPND. Too shallow.
Mundubile is a toxic fruit fallen from a poisonous tree .
PF promised “more money in your pocket in 90 days” but ten yrs later were eating humble pie of debt default, rising poverty and rotten economic stats.
PF is infighting ,they’re not focused on improving Zambian lives.Beware ,actions ,track record speaks louder than words .
We need leaders who have the ability to think logically and interrogate issues. We need people who are serious and not these chaps that took Zambia personal and looted even the last Ngwee. This man was part of the rot in PF and today he wants to stand as a candidate for highest office in the land. What a joke, Zambia is full of competent people and besides that Bally is doing a great job so far, let him finish his second term.
Mundunile you greatly benefitted from massive tenders given to your companies under the previous regime so for you to go for plot one is only one reason so that the plunder can continue.
Mundubile ni muntu bila coordination ,sequential logic or solid plans . He’s a snake charmer and the only aim he has is “its my time for glory and limelight”…just like Lungu, MCS and a few others before him.
What an opportunity for someone to enter the presidential race and take on the challenge of steering our nation, especially now when the ruling party UPND is in power. The opposition must seize this moment to scrutinize the government and demand accountability.
Our focus should be on the constitution and the powers it grants, so that citizens understand why GRZ’s actions matter. It’s crucial to highlight that one of the government’s core duties is to manage national finances, keep the economy stable, and protect the rights of all citizens. If there are laws or practices that undermine the constitution or harm the people, they must be expos ‹ ind addressed.
Any candidate who seeks to defend the constitution must be prepared to live by its principles and push for transparency in governance. This includes educating the provinces about their rights and the powers enshrined in the constitution, and ensuring that state institutions operate within their constitutional remit.
Promises by men don’t Materialise.
Most of the comments above are from paid chaps from the ruling party, a party which has lamentably failed. The economic conditions of Zambians have worsened in the last 4 years in all sectors. There is completely nothing UPND is doing to change lives apart from the daily propaganda. Do they even realize that nobody and nobody even voted for free education, as good as it may be. it has proven that the crumbs we are getting from the mines have not transformed lives, even the debt restructuring itself. Absolutely no impact
Indeed Jamil, it reminds of the words of Prof Lumumba, who said in Africa one can see that a leader is visibly failing, people’s lives are not changing at all, but misguided carders and those eating with the leader are busy cheering him on. Ati CDF is a game changer, meanwhile the said game changer has not changed the economic fortunes of the people, since 2021 the country has been on a down ward trend. I am non partisan but my free advice to the governing party is simple – Attempt to start working otherwise things wont be good for you. Your friend who lost in Malawi is even now saying that he was misled that all was well.
The highest cost of living since the birth of Zambia. And you say you are working. Humble yourselves and start working. the self praise wont take us anywhere. Heed
In Burkina Faso it is the people saying kwenyu on their own without undue influence from ruling party politicians
Here in Kwamwena in Lusaka, ZESCO loadshedding is now 21 hours a day daily. We only have power for 4 hours including meanwood Mutumbi. Its tough.
Yes meanwood Mutumbi, Kwamwena and some parts of Roma extension in Lusaka, ZESCO power supply is 3 to 4 hours a day for a very long time now
