Luanshya joins the nation in honouring heroes.

Luanshya District today joined the rest of the nation in commemorating Remembrance Day, also known as Armistice Day, a solemn occasion dedicated to honouring the gallant men and women who sacrificed their lives during the World Wars and other conflicts.

The ceremony, held at the Cenotaph in Mine Area, was attended by District Commissioner, Paul Malele, who was the Guest of Honour, Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda, heads of government departments, freedom fighters, and members of the clergy.

The event was marked by a two minute long moment of silence, acts of remembrance, a gun salute and wreath-laying, in tribute to the fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and freedom.

Delivering the word of exhortation drawn from Psalm 25:4–6, Chaplain Godfrey Zulu from the Zambia Correctional Service urged citizens to remain steadfast in righteousness and gratitude, reminding the gathering that peace is a divine gift that must be guarded through unity and faith in God.

And Chaplain Nayunda Liswaniso from Zambia police said the commemoration serves as a powerful reminder that the heroes who fought for global and national peace are not forgotten. He echoed the famous words of remembrance “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn them.”

He further called on citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made by Zambia’s sons and daughters who contributed to the liberation struggles and to continue praying for peace and stability in the nation.

Prayers were also offered for the Republican President and the country’s leadership, as well as for families of departed heroes who continue to bear the legacy of courage and service.

The ceremony brought together veterans, freedom fighters, and members of the public, united in the spirit of remembrance, gratitude, and hope for lasting peace.
