President Hichilema reiterates call for more energy sector investment

President Hakainde Hichilema has asked investors from Europe to take advantage of business opportunities in sectors such as energy to invest in Zambia.

President Hichilema says the government has created numerous business opportunities in the energy sector which were not available a few years ago.

Speaking when a delegation of investors from Europe paid a courtesy call on him at State House today, the Head of State said the reforms implemented by the government have helped to open up the energy space for investments.

Mr Hichilema added that the reforms in the energy sector have opened up opportunities not only for power generation but transmission also.

He has since assured the delegation that the government is now working at lowering the cost of doing business in Zambia.

Meanwhile, the head of delegation, Jan Traeckner, said his team is ready to invest in Zambia and help the country address the power deficit in order to grow the country’s economy.

And speaking earlier, Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, informed President Hichilema that the investors have expressed interest to invest in energy using coal, which is readily available in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany, Winnie Chibesakunda, said the business delegation is determined to return to Zambia and set up investments.

  1. How about the Dubai formula?
But the most disappointing thing is the opposition aspirants who when asked when asked how they will solve the energy problem – one says I will stop exports, very simplistic and unconvincing. The other one says I will put up nuclear energy as if it is a one-day event to put a nuclear facility. My expectation is to hear things like I will suspend CDF; I will suspend expenditure to things like constitution review commission and other wasteful expenditure. I will mobilize resources and direct them to energy imports for now, so that we can restore productivity which has collapsed, as I am sorting out a long-term solution.

  2. In opposition, he was even pointing at his head as a gesture that those in government then were not thinking. Now he looks completely idealess, the only thing happening is the testament from Professor Lumumba that in Africa, a failing President is cheered on by his party and his cadres that he has performed when the man has completely failed.
