Kafue Town Council urged to intensify road maintenance works

Permanent Secretary for Management Development Division under Cabinet Office, Alfred Sakwiya, has called on Kafue Town Council to intensify road maintenance efforts, particularly on roads that support major economic hubs in the district.

Mr Sikwiya says the government is keen to see improved access to key investment zones, noting that the road leading to the BAOBAB Investment should be prioritised.

He emphasised that better road infrastructure would help boost economic activities and strengthen investor confidence in the district.

The media reports that the Permanent Secretary made the remarks during a meeting held today when he and his counterpart, Permanent Secretary for Special duties at Cabinet Office, Hilton Chibeleka paid a courtesy call on Kafue District Commissioner Maurice Hikapulwe.

“We are engaging the Kafue Town Council to enhance road maintenance works, especially the road leading to the BAOBAB Investment. The road is critical for investment and industrial growth, and we want to ensure it receives the necessary attention,” said Mr Sakwiya.

Meanwhile, Kafue Town Council Chairperson Buumba Malambo has reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with local investors to enhance road maintenance and infrastructure development across the district.

“As a council, we are committed to working closely with investors to ensure that road maintenance works are carried out efficiently across Kafue District,” she said.

She highlighted the successful rehabilitation of several township roads, including the 40-kilometer stretch in Chiawa Chiefdom, as one of the key achievements under ongoing collaborative efforts.

Ms Malambo further expressed readiness for continued collaboration with stakeholders to accelerate infrastructure development.

And Kafue District Commissioner Maurice Hikapulwe encouraged the Permanent Secretary and his team to conduct an on-the-ground inspection to better understand the progress made so far.

“We want you to visit the district so you can fully appreciate the developmental progress we have made in road construction and other key infrastructure projects,” Mr Hikapulwe said.

He noted that such visits help highlight the district’s achievements as well as areas requiring further government support.
