It was a painful exit for the Zambia Under-20 Women’s Team after succumbing to a 1-0 home loss in the final leg of the third round on Saturday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in front of home supporters.
Mary Kantono scored the only goal seven minutes after Uganda piled pressure in the opening minutes of this encounter.
It was a well deserved lead for the Ugandans who had been troubling Zambia in their own yard.
The first leg between the two teams finished 1-1 in Kampala last week.
Zambia coach Florence rued Zambia’s missed an opportunity to earn a debut qualification to the World Cup at Under-20 level.
”This is not the result we expected. We had lapses here and there,” Mwila said.
”For everyone this is not a good feeling but a learning curve for us,” she said.
Mwila added:”Reaching this far in the World Cup qualification campaign shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
Uganda coach Sheryl Botes hailed the away victory in Ndola.
”It is a good win for us. We were told that no team has ever beaten Zambia here at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium,” Botes said.

Balelya saana impiya ama football players, anyway it’s good now that we don’t have to spend on those ladies, cause we would have spent our way to a loss.
You voted for unity in the last FAZ elections as opposed to strategy. These are the results you see in the super league, men’s national teams and the female national teams. We needed people who were going to hit the ground running. Anyway let us give them more time.
