A 40-year-old man, Richard Mulenga, is in police custody in connection with a fake letter announcing the alleged “resignation” of Hakainde Hichilema.
The said letter was complete with a matching fake signature of State House Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, as well as a date stamp and pasted on a presidential letterhead.
Law enforcement officers and cyber security agents have since detained Mulenga and are reviewing relevant provisions of the Penal Code and the Cyber Security Act to determine the appropriate charges.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
