Female Firefighter Praised for Rescuing Abandoned Baby from Pit Latrine in Mpika

A female firefighter, Felistus Banda, has received widespread praise after bravely entering a pit latrine to rescue a newborn baby boy who had been abandoned in Shanghai Township in Mpika.

The courageous rescue captured the hearts of many on social media after a video clip of the incident circulated online. In the footage, Banda is seen carefully retrieving the baby from the pit latrine before later holding the infant wrapped in warm cloths after he survived the ordeal.

According to reports, Banda did not hesitate to descend into the filthy pit latrine after firefighters responded to desperate cries coming from inside. Concerned community members had earlier alerted the Mpika Town Council Fire Brigade, prompting a swift response to the emergency.

A technical rescue crew was quickly dispatched to conduct a confined space rescue operation, during which Banda successfully retrieved the baby alive.

The dramatic rescue has since drawn admiration from members of the public, many commending the firefighter’s bravery and dedication to saving lives.
