Lufubu Bridge which connects Luwingu and Lupososhi Districts in Northern Province, has been submerged following heavy rains being experienced in the area.
This comes a week after the same bridge was damaged by torrential rains that caused severe erosion.
Ipusukilo Ward Councillor, Steven Katongo says despite Luwingu Town Council carrying out rehabilitation works, repeated flooding has left residents stranded and disruption of the movement of goods and services.
Mr Katongo has called for a permanent solution through engaging the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to construct a more durable bridge.
He emphasized that temporary repairs will not suffice, given the recurring floods that continue to devastate infrastructure in the area.
“We cannot continue relying on temporary fixes. There is need for a permanent bridge, and I believe ZNS can be engaged to construct a durable crossing point,” he said.
The civic leader has since emphasized the need for a lasting solution.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Mutale, a resident, said the collapse of the bridge has cut off access to schools, health facilities and markets.
“Our children are failing to attend classes, and patients cannot reach healthcare centres,” he said.
And other residents, Mary Mwamba and Filan Musonda, echoed the concerns, describing how families are now forced to take long detours or risk dangerous crossings to reach essential services.
“We are suffering. This bridge is our lifeline, and without it, life becomes unbearable,” they said
