Kasama man arrested for defiling biological daughter

Police in Kasama have arrested a 43 year old man for allegedly defiling his 14 year old biological daughter in what authorities have described as a shocking case of incest.

The media reports that Northern Province Police Deputy Commanding Officer, Charles Mbita has identified the suspect as Joseph Kawesha Chomba of Jazzy Compound.

Dr Mbita said the suspect was taken into custody after his wife reported the matter to Kasama Police Station.

The Northern Province Deputy Police Commanding Officer disclosed that the incident occurred on the night of March 29, 2026.

“The victim’s mother had left home for work earlier that morning, leaving the girl in the care of her father. Later that night, the suspect allegedly forced his way into the girl’s bedroom and overpowered her, sexually assaulting her as she cried in disbelief,” Dr Mbita said.

Dr Mbita has revealed that the following morning, the victim confided in her grandmother, who later informed her mother.

“Upon returning from work, the mother immediately reported the matter to police, leading to the suspect’s arrest. He is expected to be charged and taken to court soon,” he said.

The Deputy Police Chief expressed concern over the rising number of sexual offenses involving close relatives.

“Since March 2025 to date, the Police in Northern Province have recorded more than 125 sexual offenses, and shockingly, many of the perpetrators are directly related to the victims, either biological fathers or stepfathers,” Dr Mbita said.

He added that this is not only a legal problem but also a social one, requiring a multi-sectoral approach to protect the girl child from such abuse.

Dr Mbita commended the victim’s mother for her courage in reporting the case despite the suspect being her husband and likely the breadwinner of the household.

“Mothers of victims must emulate the mother in this case, who did not hesitate to report her husband to the police in order to seek justice for her daughter,” he said.

Dr Mbita has since assured the public that the suspect will face law, while also urging communities, NGOs, and faith-based organizations to work together to combat the growing scourge of sexual violence against children.

  1. LT still can’t learn journalism. It’s not allowed to identify an underage victim of serial abuse! Just because you haven’t been sued doesn’t mean you are right.
A child (or any person) can be identified by naming her father. We learn that in journalism school’s law class.
Just because you are half-baked publishers doesn’t mean you are exempt. I think someone should take this to Lady justice Chembe. You are destroying innocent children’s future
