Leave These Elections, Come Back When You Mature – Mwaliteta Tells Opposition

RE-ELECTED Lusaka Province Chairperson of the United Party for National Development (UPND), Obvious Mwaliteta, has urged opposition leaders to reconsider participating in the upcoming August 13 general elections, saying they are not yet ready for national leadership.

Mwaliteta made the remarks yesterday after being re-elected at the UPND Lusaka provincial convention held in Chiranga. He stated that ascending to the presidency is a process that requires time, preparation, and experience.

Citing past leaders, Mwaliteta noted that former President Michael Sata took over a decade to assume office, while President Hakainde Hichilema spent more than 20 years building his political journey before becoming Head of State.

“To be a president is a process. It took 11 years for Michael Sata to become president. It took President Hichilema more than 20 years to organise himself properly. Because he was prepared, you can see the results today,” he said.

He advised opposition politicians to take time to build political maturity and develop stronger structures before attempting to challenge a sitting president.

“The advice to my colleagues is to forgo these elections. Organise yourselves properly, become mature politicians, and then maybe you can come up with a manifesto sweeter than what we have now,” Mwaliteta said.

Meanwhile, Mwaliteta reaffirmed that the UPND’s top priority is to mobilise support and secure victory for President Hakainde Hichilema in the forthcoming elections.

He highlighted key achievements under the current administration, including the introduction of free education, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and school feeding programmes, stating that these initiatives are positively transforming the lives of many Zambians.

“All the children today, when they go to school, no one is paying anything,” he said.

Mwaliteta also assured Lusaka residents that the party remains committed to ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process as the country heads toward the general elections

  1. If the opposition leaders are not ready why were their prices of commodities better than yours? Why was life more affordable under them than now? I can remind you of what pricing we had for different ESSENTIAL commodities including the staple food then incase of selective amnesia. Let’s have substance in our discourse

    • And you promised to come and sort out things in your campaigns in 2021, but things have worsened. Just a reminder that there is a resignation provision in his mandate. You can advise him accordingly

  2. If I were him elected provincial chairman, i could be planning for Lusaka and making recommendations to government instead of focusing on the opposition
    – Need for a garbage/waste recycling facility in Lusaka
    – Sort out the perenial floods in Lusaka. Find a way. Start now so that by next rain season, the challenge is minimised
    – Advocacy for proper industrialised export state farms within Lusaka which can swallow the youth with different trades, mechanics, carpenters, I T, plumbers, electrical, accountants and many more
    – Make Lusaka a green garden city
    – Sort out expensive burial site challenges
    And many more

    • Thank you for your wise comment. Politicians must learn to focus on delivery rather than competing with perceived rivals.

  3. He had 20 years experience in opposition preparing, only to come and fair worse than his predecessors looking at food prices. Undoubtedly, without question, without contest, the highest cost of living since independence unless you just want to argue for the sake of arguing. This is a fail which will just be cushioned by a fragmented opposition.

    • You expect food prices to be the same forgeting that your budget is servicing the funds you borrowed and defaulted paying back.Go to school you people and learn how it works

    • Greasy Musonda. Please note that we have not been servicing any debt, the reason the debt was being structured. Also note that peoples issues are not out of the blues, you were busy promising, when you were promising, you did not know that money was borrowed. I dont expect food prices to be the same, I expect them to be lower as promised

  4. You can see type of politicians we have in Zambia. He can NOT tell what plans for Lusaka and any developmental agenda. All what he wanted is to secured a job up to next elections. Even to ask him what he has done during his time in Office,it’s ZERO apart from organising confusions in the City.Even the man (HH) he’s PRAISING what has be done apart from Courts issues,MIGARATO and arresting opposition leaders. Mother Zambia is in NEED of peoples Leaders like like the Late Sata & Kenneth.

  5. “It took 11 years for Michael Sata to become president. It took President Hichilema more than 20 years to organise himself properly”. (Koma he was slow)
And what about Chiluba? Mwanawasa? Rupiah Banda? Lungu?

  6. The chaps have no plan. Our lives under PF were more affordable even with the debts and borrowing. We dont expect prices to be the same now, but we expect them to be cheaper as promised. Once again, in case of selective or non selective amnesia,a reminder is hereby given, mealie meal was to be K50, Fuel was to be K12 per litre after cutting out middle men(please note that a calculator and graphs were used here), fertiliser was to be K250 and the Kwacha to the dollar was to pick up same day service.

    • Loleta, maybe with the new interim President who has taken over the party we may see some realisation of the fake promises.

    • It’s true UPND had no plan. They actually shocked themselves when they won because they only won because PF lost.
Remember how HH ziggy zaggered this way and that way failing to name a cabinet because he didn’t know what to do. It has taken them five years to recover from the shock. That’s why they might lose. They Simply have no plan

  7. And a warning to all aspiring politicians, do your home work now and tell us if you can come and work and not when we elect you, you start saying, you borrowed, you were enjoying the money, we want somebody who is going to come and sort issues knowing there are such challenges including debt servicing.

    • Infact you will never hear Traore crying about the previous regime. A sure sign of failure. He is just working and achieving
