Parliament has directed Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu to explain the manner in which the recent in-service police recruitment process was conducted.
The directive was issued by First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Malungo Chisangano, during a parliamentary session yesterday.
This followed a question on urgent matters without notice raised by Chawama Member of Parliament Bright Nundwe, who sought clarity on the recruitment exercise.
“Madam Speaker, the people of Chawama would love to know if truly 4,000 officers were recruited and if all the procedures of a recruitment process were followed,” Nundwe said.
In response, Chisangano directed the minister to update the nation on the process and provide clarity on how the recruitment was conducted.
The in-service police recruitment has recently attracted widespread criticism from stakeholders across the country.
Concerns escalated last week after an internal memo outlining requirements for successful candidates in the 2026 Zambia Police Service in-house training programme surfaced on social media.
However, police authorities have maintained that there was no “secret recruitment,” explaining that the exercise was an internal staffing process necessitated by attrition and resignations within the service, which they say is standard practice in public institutions.
The minister is expected to deliver a comprehensive statement addressing the concerns.
