Government funds Serenje water system

Government has approved K1 million for improving the water system at the Farmer Training Centre (FTC) in Serenje District.

Serenje Town Council Director of works, Mafita Mtonga said the local authority approved K1 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the installation of an irrigation system at the FTC.

Mr Mtonga said the installation of the irrigation system at the training centre is funded by combined CDF for Muchinga and Serenje constituencies from the disaster component of the 2025 allocation.

“One industrial borehole has been drilled at the cost of K258, 000. Drilling of the second borehole which has been suspended due to high moisture will commence soon,’’ he said.

He said the local authority is awaiting supply and installation of the irrigation system by the contractor Gaulani Agro investments.

He stated that the council has already paid K580, 000 for the supply and installation of the irrigation system.

He said the installation of an irrigation system at the FTC will help increase agriculture knowledge that the ministry of Agriculture has been imparting on the communities.

One of the farmers Agrippa Ngosa called on the local authority to ensure works are supervised to ensure quality works.
