President Hakainde Hichilema is among African leaders invited to attend the upcoming Africa-France Summit scheduled to take place next week in Nairobi.
Speaking during a joint press briefing held at the Kenyan High Commission in Lusaka, Kenya’s Charge d’Affaires Grace Okara said the summit aims to strengthen partnerships between Africa and France while unlocking opportunities for sustainable development across the continent.
Okara revealed that more than 4,000 delegates, including 30 Heads of State, are expected to attend the event, making it the largest Africa-France Summit ever held.
She said President Hichilema is expected to address delegates in recognition of his leadership and contribution to regional development discussions.
According to Okara, the Zambian leader’s participation is expected to help shape discussions toward practical outcomes, especially in areas aligned with Zambia’s development priorities.
Meanwhile, French Ambassador to Zambia Thomas Rossignol said hosting the summit in English-speaking Africa reflects the increasing importance of stronger cooperation between Africa, France and Europe.
Rossignol noted that global challenges such as climate change, armed conflicts and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have demonstrated the need for countries to work together beyond national borders.
The summit will be jointly officiated by William Ruto and Emmanuel Macron.
