Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Gift Sialubalo, has commissioned a two-storey classroom block at Tuvwanganai Secondary School in Solwezi District of North-Western Province which was constructed using the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of over K4 million.
Speaking during the commissioning, Mr Sialubalo, said that the development being attained through CDF clearly demonstrates that decentralisation is having a positive impact on communities.
He stated that the construction of the two-storey classroom block at Tuvwanganai is among the milestones that CDF has scored in the education sector.
The Local Government Minister said the government will endeavor to ensure that learners have access to quality education in all parts of the country without leaving anyone behind.
“For pupils to learn in a conducive environment, classroom blocks have to be constructed which will accommodate the increase in enrolment following the introduction of free education,” he noted.
Mr Sialubalo stressed the need for concerted effort from learners, teachers and community members to safeguard the newly constructed classroom block.
Speaking at the same event, Solwezi Mayor, Remmy Kalepa, said the initiative to construct two-storey classroom blocks in the district is aimed at maximising land and space.
He stated that the local authority will continue working closely with communities by ensuring that development is taken closer to the people through the use of CDF.
Solwezi Central Member of Parliament, Stafford Mulusa, has hailed President Hakainde Hichilema for enacting the free education policy into law.
Mr Mulusa explained that the initiative demonstrates the Head of State’s commitment to ensuring that all children have access to education.
He has cautioned parents to desist from taking children to the farm instead of allowing them to attain an education adding that those parents denying children an opportunity to access education will have a case to answer.
“Education is an equalizer. take advantage of the new law by taking your children to school,” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the pupils, Dina Nambela, has thanked the government for constructing a classroom block which will address the inadequate classroom space the school has been facing for a long time.
She has pledged to work closely with other learners in safeguarding the infrastructure in order for it to benefit other learners in years to come.
