Lusaka man arrested for being in possession of leopard skins

The Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) has arrested a 26-year old man for unlawful possession of prescribed trophy, namely leopard skin.

Gibson Tembo of Lusaka’s Chazanga compound, currently working for Oriental Quarries as a metal steel fabricator was arrested in Chazanga around 21:30 hours for being in possession of the two skins.

The suspect is believed to have been supplied the leopard skins by a woman from Mozambique who has been supplying assorted wildlife skins to the local community.

The suspect will appear in court soon. If convicted, he may serve a minimum of five years imprisonment.

ZAWA wishes to warn members of the public not engage in illegal wildlife trade as well as illegal possession of government trophies.

We are on high alert and will not hesitate to institute arrest would be offenders of wildlife crimes.
