President Edgar Lungu has called on the church to continue praying for the nation ahead of the 2016 general elections.

President Lungu says the church has a vital role to play in preserving peace, love and harmony.

The President was speaking during Mass at Saint Regina Catholic Church in Chawama Constituency in Lusaka.

President Lungu also encouraged the church to continue engaging government on various governance issues.

The President has however, urged all those aspiring for the country’s leadership to put God first.

And Saint Regina Catholic Church parish priest, Steven Mwape said Christians must promote love and unity.

Father Mwape said forgiveness, love and reconciliation must be practiced this year.

He however, implored government to consider educating Zambians more on the hike in electricity tariffs and constitution making process.

And 12-year-old Dorothy Ngwira who preached during the service called on the nation to seek God’s face for the sake of peace, love and harmony.

Dorothy who stunned the congregants with her preaching said Zambians should be role models if peace and love is to be nurtured and sustained in the country.

    • We can’t wait to give you some rest sir. You are not equal to the task. You even have no fear of lying in the church of God of all places. Anyway, you must hand over power peacefully.

    • Cushions only in the front row for Lungu and his boot-lickers while the rest of the congregation deals with the hard and rough floor surface? Selfishness even in the church while preaching love, selflessness??!! Hypocrites!!!!!

    • And we are happy that at a tender age of 12, our child is brainwashed with this religious jargon? praying for peace instead of doing soething to ensure that peace.

    • Prayer is nothing but a SELF-SERVING placebo.

It allows people who wouldn’t DO anything to pretend they have.

    • Didn’t Jesus admonish people to pray in private and not make a public display of prayer ( I am paraphrasing here) . I never hear the so-called Christians mention this as they call the flock to prayer with their microphones.

    • Shame the small girl was not even shown on ZNBC because she adviced Lungu to be a role model by stoping drinking beer.God has mysterious ways of speaking.God spoke through a small girl.lol

    • Zambians do not need to pray for peace if Lungu and his violent PFools do not plan to hack and intimidate the people.

  1. Walk the talk Mr.President. We don’t want you to speak non violence and yet let your party cadres attack political opponents. We don’t want you to speak freedom of expression and yet refuse political opponents the right to assemble. We don’t want you to speak media freedom and yet blackout opposition parties on state television and newspapers. We will judge you by what you DO and not what you SAY!

  2. Really laughable …continue praying like sheep whilst him and his cronies steal with impunity…then stating his leadership that is putting God first.
When are Zambians going to wake up from their docility!!

  3. Hallucinating about winning by 71% which even the popular cobra could not get. At his best the cobra got 42%. No one has so far beaten ftj’s 1991 landslide victory of over 70% against unip.

  4. Really laughable….Mwebantu Online is stating that this selfsame lazy bum Edgar has now directed ZESCO to revert to old tariffs…i really hope this is not true!!

  5. ZNBC, times & Daily mail all Lungu and PF. Cadres march without permit e.g friday in support of Chama. Yet he has no shame to go in house of God and preach peace when he is creating atmosphere of violence. This man will be worse then RB in buying votes this year. He doesnt care how govt money is used look at tues event just signing a document that he is spending K50 million Just as a campign.

    • One pair of hands working will not many times more good than 100 pairs of hands clasped in prayer. It’s a simple fact.

  6. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Someone please advise Mr Lungu to make a distinction between self serving interests and SERVING the Lord. Looks like he has the two confused. Why are politicians using the church as campaigning grounds???

    • How do you know your God is the correct one? There are more than 30,000 distinct Gods defined in as many holy books. Most are mutually contradictory. They cannot all be true, but they can be (and I submit are) all false. Every one of those > 30,000 gods are worshiped by thousands to billions of people who believe they have the right god with the same fervor that you believe in yours. So sad that you think that of all the conceptions of God only yours is the one true God. What if you are wrong? What if there is no God and you are wasting your one and only life in damaging fear of His Wrath instead of making the best of the fantastically unlikely lottery you have won by simply being born? Think about how different your vision of God would be if God was invented by a bunch of authoritarian…

  7. Religion is an institution established by man for various reasons. Exert control, instill morality, stroke egos, or whatever it does. Organized, structured religions all but remove god from the equation. You confess your sins to a clergy member, go to elaborate churches to worship, told what to pray and when to pray it.
Spirituality is born in a person and develops in the person. It may be kick started by a religion, or it may be kick started by a revelation. Spirituality extends to all facets of a person”s life. Spirituality is chosen while religion is often times forced. Being spiritual to me is more important and better than being religious.

Religion has a dogmatic and unquestionable assembly of rules that need to be followed without question.
    Spirituality invites you to reason…

    • Whoever gave you the idea that you know what you are talking about is really unfair. Whatever you are defining as religion is not religion but mere rituals and earthly practices. Your definition of religion is faulty and biased. Please read the bible and get all your answers from there.

James 1:27 New International Version (NIV) “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

James 1:27 King James Version (KJV) “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”

  8. cont….Spirituality invites you to reason it all, to question it all and to decide your actions and assume the consequences.

  9. Mr president you were voted in to control the economy and not to preach. If you wanna preach at least do your job first

  10. World is a far bigger place than a few 1000. If all 7 billion prayers are answered, then you have an argument

  11. Prayer isn’t a vain attempt to feel in control. Rather, prayer is a tacit admission that one isn’t in control.

  12. Adolf Hitler frequently and effectively referred to God in his speeches, and how he was doing God’s work.

What would our contributors make of that?

  13. My dears pf and opposition supporters, my advises or opinions are based on what is advised by the Holy buk.Take them or leave them. it is yo choice. But the truth wil remain the same.leave the man alone,if he is showing off to the pipo let it be he will meet God on his own judgement, each and everyone of us as some kind of worship,so it is up to your personal relationship you have with your God that will determine your spiritual faith

  14. How come you Zambians media aren’t carrying the story? Here in the diaspora we are being told that you will hold elections on August 21 Lungu has announced
