SOME Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) members of Parliament (MPs) who have supported President Lungu’s call for the former ruling party to form an alliance with the Patriotic Front (PF) ahead of the August 11 polls have demanded that the party should hold a national convention to elect new leaders.

The MPs said holding a general convention this year is the only surest way of making the MMD strong before it enters into an alliance with the ruling party.

The law-makers include Nalikwanda MP Geoffrey Lungwangwa, Chitambo MP Mwimba Malama, Kasenengwa MP Victoria Kalima and Sinda MP Levy Ngoma.

But Dr Mumba said it is only the preserve of the national executive committee to decide whether or not the party should hold a national convention.

  1. SINKAMBA WISDOM – Dr. Mumba is too quick and easily cheated by ECL. MMD was used in the last election by PF once they formed the government Mumba is denied free assembly and movement and gets tear gassed in Chipata. For sure you cried like a baby and now the same Lungu and Pf wants you to make them win an election. MMD please be matured. The love for money will never take you in government.

  2. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO INDECISIVE LEADERS. NEVERS MUMBA CHECK!! BECAUSE OF ALWAYS PLAYING “PEMBELENI FIRST” NOW YOU LEAVE ROOM FOR SUCH MA NONSENSE! NEVERS SHOULD BE CLEAR AND SHOULD BE READY TON LEAD. INSTEAD HEVIS PLAYING “HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!”. WHAT NEVERS SHOULD DO IS BE LIKE MILES MAKE A DECISION. SEATING ON THE FENCE MAKES HIM APPEAR WEAK. TELL MMD YOUR POSITION AND THEN SAY ULTIMATELY ITS UPTO THE NEC BIT THIS IS WHERE I STAND. NEVERS WAKE UP AND LEAD! NEVERS MUMBA CHECK!

    • Loadist you are correct. I have said it behalf Nevers lacks political maturity or experience if you like. He doesn’t know whether he is going or coming.

  3. I know that many bloggers do not understand that Mumba and MMD hold the ace up to their sleeve to change the political landscape in Zambia. Lungu knows but is playing the double stands. Sends sms to Mumba but in darkness he is talking to the RB supported MMD faction. UPND will also need an alliance with MMD. Forget about what happened in January 2015. Political outcomes cannot be calculated scientifically. Otherwise Rupiah would have won in 2011. Sata would have lost because when he first contested he got less than 5%. In the August 11, any one can win between PF and UPND but they will not make the 50 plus 1. This is where MMD and Mumba come in. Second round alliance will be far much better than now. Let the MMD hyenas who want to stand on UPND or PF tickets go ahead, but concentrate on…

    • We must all understand that Mumba has very little following in MMD. Talking to him is a waste of time by both UPND and PF. Either of the two can win without Mumba.

  4. Mumba is eyeing the running mate provision, whereas the majority of MMD members of parliament owe their allegiance to RB and other forces outside their party. Pathetic.

  5. @mwebantu we voted MMD out becoz they had outlived their usefness. When the party works with PF it will be rejuvnated. Moreover MMD are Zambians who should not be stopped from developping this country. Elyo PF is a national party

  6. Surely Nevers is the most NAIVE politician I know. Given the MMD is a former ruling party he should have gone it alone first knowing fully well that the re-run will only be among two candidates …….. post the first round election then he wud have had a better bargaining Power and it would have provided the former ruling party a good Dip stick to see where the stand in ZM politics at the moment. Maybe he is wary of the fact that he could hardly beat the spoilt votes in the last election…. which Might imply EL is even more naive to be courting Nevers instead of say Nawakwi …. Nevers makes easy prey nonetheless 🙂
