Zambia makes bizarre drop on FIFA rankings

Share

Zambia have made a strange drop on the latest FIFA rankings despite their unbeaten run in open play over the last two months.

Chipolopolo tumbled nine places down from 67 to 76 on the latest ranking released on Thursday by Zurich.

In January, Chipolopolo won three, drew one with the 5-4 loss on post-match penalties after a scoreless extra-time draw against Guinea in the CHAN quarterfinals on February 3 the teams only blemish.

However, Zambia’s drop maybe attributed to inactivity during the entire month of December after recording away and home wins over Sudan on November 11 and 15 respectively in 2018 FIFA World Cup pre-group stage knockout qualifiers.

  1. this is why most sports fanatics call these rankings fake and astonishing.
just look at the highest ranked team in africa – algeria, ( hope its not on top now).
what have they achieved to merit that?
    useless rankings…

    • I can’t wait for August 13th when PF and their MMD minister of sports walk out of government. Even soccer sure its dropping like Kwacha?

    • Why do we always get angry about things that are so obvious and factual? Doesn’t improvement start with acceptance of one’s weaknesses? Check the statistics from our 2012 AFCON Finals win to date and rate our chipolopolo team…. A very sorry DOWNWARD trend. HR may not have been a tactically good coach, but under him the fitness levels of our boys was unequaled. The current team in disgracefully UNFIT, starting with their pot-bellied coach – I wonder how he demonstrates his tactics/ skills with the ball. We need a total overhaul at the top of FAZ

  2. They must have neglected to pay some kind of recognition fees. FIFA is ruled by cash and only cash rules whatever FIFA does. You have to be rich to get honours from them.

  3. You play Friendlies with RSA based clubs and practice with Galu’s kids club and you complain when you drop…really laughable and utter folly on your part.
I have told you that the formula is very simple to understand. ..but you have greedy empty suits who would do everything on the cheap can’t even organise a match against the top 5 Africa teams.
    Wake up! !

  4. FIFA RANKINGS ARE CORRUPT WE KNOW ITS ONE WAY OF BLOCKING PLAYERS FROM BEIG PICKED BY EUROPIAN BIG CLUBS,THIS TIME FRENCH,SPANISH AFRICAN NATION SALE PLAYERS TO EU.WHICH CLUB WILL SCRIFICE TO GET PLAYERS FROM RANK 76 none utulo pa zed

    • Stop hallucinating… Just because you and your Galu do not understand it does not make it corrupt …take some time and study it instead of being utterly lazy!!

    • Your average Zombie fan is too lazy to sit down and read all this he would rather listen to his dull RSA based FA president Galu.

  5. Just to assist those who dont understand how the calculations are done.
Calculation of points for a single match:
The number of points that can be won in a match depends on the following factors:
    1. Was the match won or drawn? (M) – Win = 3, draw = 1
    2. How Important was the match (ranging from a friendly match to a FIFA World Cupâ„¢ match)? (I)
    3. How strong was the opposing Team in terms of ranking position and the Confederation to which they belong? (T and C)

These factors are brought together in the following formula to ascertain the total number of points (P):

Points = Match (win or loss) x I (how Important) x T (opposition Team ranking) x C (Confederation of opposition team)
    Summarized as: P = M x I x T x C (Please note that this is done over a period of 12 months)

    • contd..
The following criteria apply to the calculation of points:
      M: Points for match result
Teams gain 3 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a defeat. In a penalty shoot-out, the winning team gains 2 points and the losing team gains 1 point.

      I: Importance of match
      – Friendly match (including small competitions): I = 1.0
      – FIFA World Cupâ„¢ qualifier or confederation-level qualifier: I = 2.5
      – Confederation-level final competition or FIFA Confederations Cup: I = 3.0
      – FIFA World Cupâ„¢ final competition: I = 4.0

      T: Strength of opposing team
The strength of the opponents is based on the formula: 200 – the ranking position of the opponents. As an exception to this formula, the team at the top of the ranking is always assigned the value 200 and the teams…

    • contd..
      T: Strength of opposing team
…As an exception to this formula, the team at the top of the ranking is always assigned the value 200 and the teams ranked 150th and below are assigned a minimum value of 50. The ranking position is taken from the opponents’ ranking in the most recently published FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.

      C: Strength of confederation
When calculating matches between teams from different confederations, the mean value of the confederations to which the two competing teams belong is used. The strength of a confederation is calculated on the basis of the number of victories by that confederation at the last three FIFA World Cupâ„¢ competitions (see following page). Their values are as follows:

      CONMEBOL 1.00
      UEFA 0.99
      AFC/CAF/OFC/CONCACAF 0.85

  6. 67 and 76 look like the same numbers to me, except they are reversed or mirrored. And everything is upside down or reversed in this part of the world. If you don’t believe me wait until some nut sneaks to Kariba dam in the dead of the night to empty the resevoir of the 3 cm waters gained so far. Iliko bad.
