A senior government official of Kawambwa district says the area will not need relief food.

This is because Kawambwa has continued to receive good rainfall pattern this rainy season.

District Commissioner, Ivo Mpasa, disclosed this in Kawambwa yesterday when Youth and Sport Deputy Minister, Ronald Chitotela, called on his office and addressed heads of government departments.

Mr Mpasa said people of Kawambwa will not need relief maize as the district has received good rainfall pattern this rainy season.

He said the people have also grown a lot of maize pointing out that he does not expect them to experience hunger and ask for relief food.

Meanwhile, Mr Mpasa told Mr Chitotela that he is working in harmony with all government departments.

The DC added that he has no problem with government departments as they have continued supporting and implementing government programmes in the area.

And Mr Mpasa said he is happy at the government’s quick response to providing 1000 x 50 Kilogramme bags of maize to people of Senior Chief Mushota’s area whose houses have collapsed during a rainstorm.

The DC said distribution of maize has already started to the affected families in the area.

  1. If one’s house collapses and they are given food, how does that resolve their problem? Perhaps, the ideal intervention should have been to provide short-term housing or shelters in the interim, and then help them rebuild their houses.

  2. So who is going to need relief maize? More contradictions from these empty tins who have exported all the reserve stocks

    • Well very few if any at all, @Jay Jay. It’s UPND that started this starvation nonsense. Looks like the UPND hype is now a rope around UPND Necks!

  3. Isn’t it too early or unnecessary to make such statements? What if the rains stop today for the rest of the season? Or heavier rains cause severe flooding and destroy the crop?

  4. The party in power is too one dimensional, they have no capacity to examine issues from all angles. Blame others for their problems a clean sign of an irresponsible responsible government.
