Stiffer Market and Bus station laws coming-Kampyongo

Local Government and Housing Minister Stephen Kampyongo has disclosed that government will put in place stiffer and clear by-laws on the running of markets and bus stations.

Mr. Kampyongo has with immediate effect directed that all local authorities in the country should meanwhile enforce the markets and bus Act number 2007.

He observed that some councils were fearing to implement the Act hence lawlessness had taken centre stage in markets and bus stations.

He said this in a ministerial statement in parliament yesterday.

The minister said the running of markets and bus stations is scheduled to improve since government has decentralised certain roles to the local authorities.

And Mr. Kampyongo has said Johabi Bus Services have resumed operating from Kapata Bus Station in Chipata district in Eastern province.

He regretted that a group of people allegedly banned Johabi buses from operating from the station last week.

He said state police have since hounded out that group from the station.

  1. An election conundrum… How to deal with those who have broken laws with impunity when one needs and uses them to ‘control’ the narrative on the street. How can ‘a group’ take over in that manner. You created a monster.

  2. Introducing too many laws does not help matters. Just enforce the existing ones.
