MINISTER of Health Joseph Kasonde says Government is doing everything possible to contain the outbreak of cholera.

Dr Kasonde said the total cumulative number of both suspected and confirmed cases has reached 108, with Lusaka district recording 88 cases and Chibombo 20 cases.

Dr Kasonde was updating Parliament yesterday on the cholera situation in the country.

He said since the outbreak, only one death has been recorded.

“Mr Speaker, let me take this opportunity to inform the House that the cholera outbreak that affected Kanyama Township and Chibombo district is almost under control.

“The new cases being seen are mostly coming from Bauleni township,” Dr Kasonde said.

Dr Kasonde said the Ministry of Health together with partners has continued to implement various measures in surveillance, prevention and case management in all the affected areas of Lusaka and Chibombo.

“We have mobilised teams to go in the communities to look for suspected cases of cholera.

“Outbreak investigations are being done to find out the source of the infection.

“Water samples are being collected for examination,” he said.

Dr Kasonde said treatment centres have been opened in Kanyama, Bauleni, Matero and in Chibombo.

  1. This minister only takes reports, he hasn’t seen how bad the problem is on the ground, am sure he hasn’t even seen how living conditions are at UTH. All does is talk to media based on reports. He’s as useless as the kaingus & Lubindas

  2. MR MINISTER IT SEEMS YOUR MINISTRY WORKS IN ISOLATION FROM OTHER MINISTR SUCH AS THE MINISTRY OF LOCAL GOVT. AS A SCIENTIST ARE YOU NOT SUPPOSED TO ADVISE THE THE LOCAL GOVT MINISTRY ON HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO KEEP THE TOWNS CLEAN? DO WE NEED ANOTHER SCIENTIST FROM EUROPE OR UK TO COME AND LECTURE US ON HOW A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT CAN PREVENT RECURRENCE OF E OF CHOLERA. WHAT IS YOUR JOB IN THE FIRST PLACE IF THE ABOVE DOES NOT FALL UNDER YOUR JURISDICTION?

  3. Dirty pigs. The whole country has become a cesspit. people urinate and sh1t everywhere. What a useless bunch of 1diots!
