The Lumwana Radiants bench has saluted its players for holding their own against defending FAZ Super Division champions Zesco United on Wednesday.
Top flight debutants Lumwana rallied from one-down to hold the five-time champions to a 1-1 away draw at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in he two sides first-ever competitive meeting.
Zesco took the lead in the 6th minute through Jesse Were but Lumwana equalised in the 32nd minute through Hillary Bwalya before the visitors tenacious suffocated their hosts with ten men behind the ball en route to a historic point against the champions.
The result also ended Zesco’s 100 per cent start to the 2016 season that had seen them win all five of their opening league games in this campaign.
“It is always difficult to play a team like Zesco United. They are very organised, they play at a very high tempo, you could see the experience but a point is good for us,” Lumwana assistant coach George Chilufya said.
“I think the boys showed a lot of character. We psyched them, they were in good shape in terms of mental strength and I think that is what really helped us.”
Lumwana rise from 13th to 11 after the draw on 9 points, ten behind leaders Nkanaa and five adrift of 2nd placed Zesco.
