ZAMBIA will experience a further reduction in the hours of load shedding by the end of this month after the expected addition of 150 megawatts to the national grid by Maamba Collieries Limited’s thermal plant, Zesco Limited has said.

Zesco spokesperson Henry Kapata said in an interview yesterday that final touches are being done at Maamba thermal plant on the transmission of power from the plant in Maamba to the national grid.

He said evacuation of power will be done in two phases with the first 150MW at the end of the month and another 150MW two weeks later.

“All together we are expecting 300 megawatts to be added to the national grid and this will result in a further reduction of load shedding,” Mr Kapata said.
Load shedding recently reduced from six to four hours.

  1. I just hope these empty tins are not running Kariba at full power or used more borrowed funds to import…something is not right here!!

  2. Rather than reduce load shedding and trick people into thinking PF has the power thing under control, how about sending the generator ship that is docked off the coast of Mozambique home to save on this outrageously expensive imported power? Last I heard, the Scottish firm Aggreko is still providing 148MW from a boat moored near Beria which is costing millions of dollars per day!

No… with the election coming in August that doesn’t matter to our leaders. Better is to import some of the most expensive power in the world and sell it on at cheap subsidized prices, right?

  3. @Garvin Thomas

So you have agreed with some of us who have already predicted PF victory come August 11.

  4. This is not development.First and foremost;;;The PF must take Zambia back to where they found it when they came into power from Congo or Malawi. This means; No load shedding, kwacha at K4 per dollar, full medicine in Hospitals,Productive mines,Clean Towns,Zero crime, proper government planners,Debt free(mwanawasa/magande),Less imports/more exports,Less corruption,Free media,Good agricultural policies,No tribalism etc. After all these things are restored then we can talk about development under PF.

  5. For now,you PF can make all the noise you want or you can be the loudest empty tins if you want to,but,”nobody is listening to you”.

  6. Lungu is winning these Elections and this is why GBM and his loser are desperate inciting violence to avoid being sent into a shameless political Dustbin for Good.

  7. wait who are these people who were only getting load shedding for 6 hours in lusaka we constantly had 8 hours or more of load shedding i hope i can experienced loading for 6 hours now that they have reduced it

  8. we shall still live with the impact of the 8 hours load shading for months before we could recover from the lost income .
