The Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) has been awarded the best Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region Gold Award for Stand Excellence at the just ended INDABA tourism exhibition held in Durban, South Africa.

The award was given based on a point system formula scored by a group of high level judges derived from a cross section of South Africa Tourism Industry.

About 30 companies from the private sector representing accommodation establishments, airlines, car hire operations and tour operators exhibited at the stand.

ZTB Acting Managing Director, Stein Liyanda, in accepting the award, commended the exhibitors and ZTB staff for setting a supreme standard of professionalism.

This is according to a statement released by ZTB Public Relations Officer, Dorris Kofi and obtained in Lusaka today.

The Indaba is the biggest tourism exhibition on the African Tourism calendar of the event and is held annually.

This year’s exhibition attracted 12,675 visitors, including 673 members of the media and all tourism boards from the SADC region and a few others from other parts of Africa such as East and North Africa.

  1. This shows that there is potential in Zambia. ZTB please focus on tourism in Zambia seriously and tell the Govt to help bring back a NATIONAL AIRLINE.

  2. #1 jamaco i totally agree with u we need a national airline in order to expand the the tourism industry in zambia.most of the countries which are doing good in tourism business have a good aviation industry coz the two go hand in hand. For example look at kenya their tourism is good and so is their aviation industry.so my appeal is ZTB influence govmnt to help come up with an airline!!!!!!!

  3. Positive development indeed, but without fiscal discipline in powers that be, where the money realised ends up in few individuals’ pockets, then such developments are not worthy talking about.

  4. Bravo mayi namugala viotukwaza ivyo, izina!! Indabi mutupe utala kukaya, mwivwa? Hopefully I have lost my nyika. My dadie was tumbuka mum nyika. And I did 1 yr of schooling at Nsami School about 30 kms from mulekatembo central

  5. That was a joke, what has ZTB achieved in terms of marketing tourism in terms of the locals other than promoting setting up brothels in Lusaka and other major towns. There is alot of potential in tourism development in all corners of Zambia. Surprisingly its confined to Livingstone, Lunagwa South and Kafue National Parks. That award is not well deserved coz the MD for NAC R Misitali has cried red that there is a heavy reduction of paasengers passing through their 4 major airports. Anyway only God knows.
