Gladys Lengwe officiates first Olympics football match

Rio2016Gladys Lengwe officiated her first Olympic Games match on Saturday.

The Kitwe-based female FIFA referee took charge of New Zealand’s 1-0 Group G win over Colombia on August 6.

Lengwe and her assistants Bernadettar Kwimbira of Malawi and Moroccan Souad Oulhaj are the only African match officials at the Olympic women’s football tournament in Rio.

  1. Interesting how any criticism of her is removed. Referees across the world need to stamp down on embellishment, it’s ruining the game. May be we need to have a video replay before red cards are handed out with such irresponsibility
