Zambia’s Beach volleyball court is ready

The Zambia Volleyball Association (ZAVA) says the first ever beach volleyball court in the country is complete and is expected to be commissioned on October 15, 2016.

ZAVA General Secretary Charles Hambote told ZANIS Sports today that the date for the commissioning of the beach volleyball was arrived at the just ended executive committee meeting held in Lusaka.

“That all things being equal, the official launch of the Beach Volleyball court should take place on October 15, 2016. The Executive Committee will in due course publish a detailed plan for usage of the court and on the development of podium athletes using this facility,” Hambote said.

The first ever beach volleyball court in the country has been constructed at the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC) in Lusaka with support from Bath University engineering students, Volleyball England, Sport in Action and OYDC.

And Hambote said ZAVA has resolved to immediately lobby for funds to enable the Under 23 teams commence training in readiness for the qualifiers for the Under 23 African Championships.

Hambote also said the executive committee has resolved to re-look on the Under 23 African Championships budget so that a more realistic budget is drafted and adopted.

Meanwhile, Hambote disclosed that the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) has awarded Tunisia the right to host the U23 Africa Men’s Volleyball Championships following the withdrawal of South Africa last week.

The U23 Africa Men’s Volleyball Championships will be held from October 12 to 20, 2016 and open to players born on 1st January 1995 or after.

This is the second edition of the competition after the first edition hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh in 2014 and won by Tunisia.

The competition will also act as a qualifier for the 2017 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Championship.

  1. A welcome development, but this surely should be belt in Mongu or Kalabo where we have natural sands to support the grown of the sport at coast effective level.

  2. this is great news i love team supports to a great tool to organise ones life ……also great Volleyball england is involved to give support/advice to players and coaches beyond the new venue

  3. Isn’t it an embarrassment that Engineering students from another country should come and build a volleyball court when we have fully qualified Engineers? It’s a PARADOX

  4. @Paradox silence is golden I now 100% believe.

Engineering encompasses a lot of specialties, just like medicine, cooking, theology etc.

If one says he is a mechanical engineer, don’t expect him to be knowledgeable in electrical engineering, or if one person tells you he is a chef (cook) don’t expect him to know Chinese, Indian, western cookery including pastry not at all.

So those engineers who were involved in the beach volleyball construction are experts in that area.
I hope you now understand, thanks
