The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set November 17, 2016 as the date for elections for Council Chairpersons in four districts and by-elections in 14 wards.
Elections for Council Chairperson will be conducted in Senga Hill, Kalumbila and Mushindano Districts while one by election for Council Chairperson will be conducted in Mwandi district.
ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna who disclosed this in a press release to ZANIS said the elections have been necessitated by the creation of new districts namely, Senga Hill, Kalumbila and Mushindano while the Mwandi District by election follows the Nullification of the election of Ms Gilnard Mafuti as Council Chairperson for the District.
Mr Akufuna further said the vacancies in the 14 wards have arisen from the deaths of councillors, errors on ballot papers and uncontested elections.
He disclosed that filing of nomination will take place on October 20 between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours adding that the campaign period will commence after nominations and will end on November 16.
The wards where the by elections will take place are Keembe, Chisanga and Lushibashi in Central Provice, Miengwe and Mukuba on the Copperbelt and Rukuzye in Eastern province.
Others are Chipete, Mumbwe, Nsenga in Luapula Province, Kanyala and Mpungu in Muchinga Province, Kkole in Southern Province, Lalafuta in Northwestern and Shekela in Western Province.

Will UPND participation in these by elections not a confirmation that Lungu is our President? Is they can refuse the opening ceremony of assembly because Lungu was there why should they participate in by elections that will be organized by an illegal president and corrupt ECZ? let’s see if UPND is serious with what they say.
