Zambia asks Aussies to open diplomatic mission in Lusaka

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba has requested the Australian government to consider opening a diplomatic mission in Zambia.

Speaking in Lusaka today when Australian Special Envoy for Human Rights Philip Ruddock paid a courtesy call on him, Mr Kalaba said there is great potential for increased cooperation between Zambia and Australia.

ZANIS reports that the Foreign Affairs Minister said Australian companies operating in Zambia have played a pivotal role in the economic emancipation of Zambian people.

He said the warm relations between Zambia and Australia have paved way for a Zambian mission to be opened in Australia.

Mr Kalaba said it is the wish of the Zambian government that Australia reciprocates by setting up a diplomatic mission in Zambia.

And Mr Philip said he would convey the Minister’s request to the Australian Prime Minister but was quick to point out that Australia is currently making budgetary prioritization of diplomatic missions abroad.

The human rights Envoy said Australia is concerned with the promotion of human rights in all commonwealth countries.

Mr Philip said he hopes all commonwealth countries can work closely with the United Nations Human rights Commission to uphold the promotion of human rights in all countries.

He also congratulated the Patriotic Front for the party’s victory in the August 11 2016 general elections.

    • If you have ever been to Australia or ever planned to, you would know how difficult and expensive it is to get visas from their embassy in South Africa.

    • Yes please open I may probably come and work there as the ambassador assistant. Kikikikik

  1. Why don’t you ask Mozambique, Namibia, CAR, Gabon, Congo, Eritrea, South Sudan and Djibouti to open embassies in Zambia? They are your fellow Africans. Kukonda tuchawa na azungu! All racists from South Africa have emigrated to New Zealand and Australia what does that tell you? Which Zedian wants to go to Australia?

    • Australia is the new home of apartheid. Australia should first start treating its own aborigines in a humane way before coming to black African countries. We have nothing to learn from Australia.

    • Imagine! Even uganda has no embassy in Zed yet they are cryinh for Australian convicts’ friendship
      Utulo!

    • Africa fails to work with fellow Africans there is no control of administration, no trust between neighbouring countries, all borders within Africa are Closed! , NO FREE MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE

  2. FORGET ABOUT AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT OPENING/ESTABLISHING A MISSION HOUSE IN ZAMBIA. AUSTRALIA LIKED COUNTRY SUCH AS APERTHIED SOUTH AFRICA. THOSE WERE THEIR BEST FRIENDS. JUDGE YOURSELF WHAT THAT MEANS.

  3. This dwarf empty tin thinks all govts are as reckless as his govt of Lazy Lungu …he thinks its cheap to run an embassy. Put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself “what has Zambia got to offer us?”
