Uganda land Zambia friendly

The Zambia National Team line up before the match

Uganda will host Zambia in an international friendly game on November 8 at Namboole Stadium in preparation for their FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier four days later at the same venue.

The Cranes, who held Ghana to a goalless draw in their first tie of the campaign in Tamale last month, will be looking to register all three points in front of their home fans.

“In order to approach the World Cup qualifier in the best competitive mood, we are happy that we shall provide a friendly match to our boys against Zambia. We shall be competitive and also assess the form of our players individually,” explained Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.

The last time Uganda faced Congo was in the Afcon 2013 qualifiers with the Red Devils winning 3-1 at home before the tables turned in Kampala as the Cranes stunned Congo 4-0 to proceed to the last round of qualifiers where they met Zambia who edged them 9-8 on penalties after a 1-all draw over two legs.

“We want to win against Congo Brazzaville and show that the point we earned in Ghana is a pure reflection of hard work and our ambitions in World Cup qualifiers to be contenders,” Micho added.

The Serbian tactician will name the squad to feature in both ties on November 2 at Fufa House in Mengo.

In the other tie in Group E, Egypt host Ghana at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria with the Pharaohs looking to make it two wins out of two after they defeated Congo 2-1 in Pointe Noir last month.
