Zambian faces firing squad

Share

A Zambian woman has been convicted and sentenced to death by a Chinese court for trafficking in heroin.

Mary Musiyalike, 38, who was sentenced on May 14, is to be executed by a firing squad within two years.

Drug Enforcement Commission Spokesperson, John Nyawali, told ZNBC news that Musiyalike was found guilty of trafficking 2.5 Kilogrammes of heroin into China, in December last year.

She was arrested at Shanghai City International Airport as she entered China with the drugs.

China is one of the countries in the world with very strict laws on drug trafficking and the offence is punishable by death.

Mr. Nyawali has appealed to Zambians at home and abroad to desist from drug trafficking.

He said no country in the world is a safe haven for drug trafficking.

Ten Zambians, five of whom are women have been convicted outside the country for drug related offences in the last six months.

The majority of these were arrested in the far east.

One woman died while serving a sentence.

  1. How awful. God bless her soul.
Many of these women are gullible and don’t know what they were doing, they were duped into being mules.

  2. The drug dealer will find another gullible zambian attracted to quick money and riches to replace her. She made a permanent bed to sleep in and she only has herself to blame.

  3. malibu yakuilombela… don’t mess with the chinese… how dumb was she to show up with drugs at a chinese airport..LOL….

  4. Just kill her. These are people who when you go back to Zambia say all sorts of things about people in diaspora. I say kill her and now.

  5. Ba nakazi, mukansisike, mwa chinfya mwe. Kukonda quick money, just work for it trust me with prayer repentance and hard work it comes at the appointed time. Elo nakuconda ba muna baku Niraland. Awe mwe Ba zamulasa madam uyu nama AK47. Is there anything GRZ can do to bring her home and the cumukwapula na malubeni awe mwe.

  6. Esther Nakawala, the empty hot-head MMD, later PF, later MMD cadre has died. She died in Ethiopia on her way to Nigeria to see the miracle pastor whom both FTJ and RB have seen before. She surely must prepare a strong mitigatory statement before she meets her Maker. She cause a lot of grief to a lot of people whose only crime was not agree with her politically.

  7. Can’t the Zambian Govt. get a reprieve for her? Some exchange programme or so.No one deserves to die for few kilos of drugs.I think

  8. She arrored greatly aspecielly with the full knowldge of China. But I pray she receives a sentence not death please!her children..innocent souls.someone talks of Diaspora. I hate this term.there is no honour in it! Zambians are not professional refugees!

  9. sad ending only if she could be given a second chance probably she could desist. If they kill her then all the chinese in zambia smoking marijuana will be hunged too.

  10. What if she had succeeded? she would have been one of the shows in Lusaka driving expensive cars etc. There is no short cut to prosperity. short cuts are always wrong cuts. You get what you deserve. let her die, this might sound mean but, thats the law of the land! May she burn in hell, AMEN!!

  11. Why get a reprieve for her? She new that in China people are executed for trafficking in drugs before getting involved. The stats (people executed for drug trafficking) are there for all to see but people get blinded by the possibility of making a quick buck. What of the people she was to conclude the deal with. At large I am sure and possibly looking for another person desperate to take chances. In my view that is where prosecuting drug offenders fall short. If all involved are brought to book it would help minimise the flow because the big fishes in this business are rarely caught. Middle men and women are the ones who suffer the consquences. More zambian women than men have been caught. It once was dogs now drugs. Bakashana tusebanyeni. Mune repent for the day of salvation is today.

  12. Too bad for Mary musiyalike. Why engage in such things in the first place?? and Chinese mean it like it is..
    Death..
    gaol.
    Shame!!! what a waste!!

  13. number 13 I think you are the only one respect LIFE….Hey they should not Kill her but give her a life sentence….If they do all choncholiz should be evacuated that is why I miss Idi Amin…..Does anyone knows where that is …Anyway tooo bad Mary , I will try to pray for you so that you just get a life jail term and just get used to it…..Chinese prisons should be better than Chimbokaila, which technically all sentences are death sentences.Next tome try to swallow the heroin ,osafaka mu hand laggege,

  14. The punishment seems too harsh ba china naimwe….. You should also consider poverty and other issues…killing someone just for trafficking in drugs sure? I hope this is an eye opener for would be drug traffickers. China, your decision stinks to say the least.

  15. I do not approve of the death penalty and God forbid us to kill one another. However, the thing to appreciate is that China for a very long time now sends drug traffickers to the gallows and we need to respect the law of the land. If she was falsely accused or framed then other avenues required for her to be released or transferred to Zambia need exploring. If she knew the possible wages of those sins beforehand then pleading for leniency might be an option otherwise the laws of that land will prevail unless God intervenes. Imagine the number of lives she would have destroyed had she successed in selling her contraband.

  16. Imagine the number of lives she would have destroyed had she successed in selling the drugs. I have seen the devastating effect of drugs in the diaspora and it is very sad, painful and regrettable to see people like that.

  17. Drugs are all over the world. Who give them the right to take someone’s life.God is the giver and taker of life.

  18. I am sure the Zambian govt can plead with the chinese govt so that she is given maybe life sentence, to be served in Zambia.

  19. Our Govt is to blame to some extent, this man made poverty that has been created in our nation because of incompetency, scams etc drives naive people to be caught in such bad traps. If our country was rich and such cases were happening then that would be a different story. I don’t condone drug trafficking but we need to look at the other side of the story. We need to pressurize our Govt to perform.God bless Zambia

  20. Too sad indeed for the convicted lady, and too bad for zambia’s image. These chinese have a lot of respect for zambians unlike our friends from niraland.

  21. Awe #6 tekanya sana, you need to be analytical before you conclude. Read how our numbala 1 in this article has written. Most of these women are just victims of the unknown circumstances. You need to understand the poverty levels and the economical gap between the haves and the have nots in Zambia to critically analyse and understand such issues. An hungry person is vulnarable to be used in anything that may show a meaningful future, no matter how risky it may be, however , not all that glitters is gold. Hard luck bo Musialike.

  22. Iwe #4 ilesebanya ishina lyabu Zimandola One, write readable english kaili. You went to Mishikishi Primary School? Is that the way you write Affairs? Ka Flag ububi, chalo nshi ichochine computer ulomba yafumako?

  23. The govt should not allow mary to face the firing squard, they ask the chinise govt to release her and save the sentense in zed 2.5kgs of mbanje is not worth lossing a life of someone let GRZ do something not just let musiyalike to be killed by the chinese.govt should be there for its pipo where ever they are, they should not allow other nations to pass severe purnishmt on its pipo.

  24. Lessons and examples are there but it appears our women just dont listen. Nizake izo. Infact if she had managed to get it thru’, sembe sanatipaseko nandrama. So let her dance to the tune of facing chinese firing squad. May the good Lord have mercy upon her.

  25. GRZ should talk have a closed door meeting with GRC. The woman could serve a life sentence in Zambia. Her family should seek RB’s intervention. I know Obama would have done it for his own. The Brits do it too and some lives have been saved. I thought we had ‘good relations’ na machocholi. Anyway, serves her right. I also hear that there are lots of Nigerian folks languishing in China jails…

  26. Nkani yalula ! Well each country has laws they follow ad in China thats the law and once convicted you are sentenced to death by shooting. In this case there is nothing the Zambain govt can do. Drug Enforcement Commission is busy educating people on the dangers of drugs and its consequences so this Mary new exactly what she was doing and hence our govt cannot intervene, she is a criminal who is just facing the results of being one. These are the same chaps denting the image of our country both at home and abroad. Let the law take its course. Its a pity she has learnt the way and at least she still has time to repentbefore she is put to permanent rest.

  27. Oh shame, this is sad. isnt there anything our govt can do to atleast have her locked up for life.. maybe she didnt even know shes carrying.. ladies, dont mess with niger boys or russians…they are the heaviest drug dealers and never get caught….why…because they dont do the dirty work

I pray she gets a second chance!

#6…we dont talk like that….would you say the same if it your relative..

  28. NO NO NOOOOOO I will stage a one man protest if one is willing to come with me.How can one be killed like that? Where is our govnt? Let help that poor “guilty” woman please!! She can be deported back and be taken to chimbokaila instead.

  29. No mercy for drug pushers. She faces the guillotine, period!! If the laws in Zambia allow 5years as punishment let us respect that. If China and Indonesia punish by the GUN we should also respect that. M.H.S.R.I.P-May Her Soul Rise If Possible. Did she also in the VAJINA like the Ndola lady last week???????????

  30. The levels of poverty are too high in zed,and the money these drug dealers promise is too tempting. They can pay you up to
$40,000.00 just for one trip.Imagine what a broke unemployed, uneducated zambian woman would do with that much? She knew if caught she face the music, but she took the risk, probably after seeing others succed.

  31. shame…most people do not have a heart…if anyone has never done something wrong, they should throw a stone at that woman..GOD US WATCHING.. the same measure you use to judge someone will be used on you.

  32. No mercy for drug pushers. She faces the guillotine, period!! If the laws in Zambia allow 5years as punishment let us respect that. If China and Indonesia punish by the GUN we should also respect that. M.H.S.R.I.P-May Her Soul Rise If Possible. Did she also hide the drugs in the VAJINA like the Ndola lady last week???????????

  33. I know of 3 Zambian ladies now and you only get told that they are visiting China or whatever country when you ask their close relatives or friends where they are. Sad development indeed and definitely one should never judge. Hope things turn out well for them.

  34. As someone else has already pointed out I also believe this woman was a mule. This should therefore be a big assignment for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage the Chinese government and save this woman’s life. In the process they should make her sing like a canary so that the drug lord who financed her is arrested.

I guess the rest of the Zambian mules will learn that some countries are not in the habit of joking.

  35. I agree with #s 1 and 13. Have you noticed how the Americans rush to the aid of their nationals when convicted for offences committed outside the US?

  36. If Mwanawasa may his soul rest in peace was alive he was going to internven, nomba ba RB awe sure, i feel for her family.

  37. The poor lady is Lozi. So Lozis are drug traffikers, Bembas are thieves, Tongas are Womanizers, Kaondes are Tetamalilos (talkative-Tetamashimba) and whilst we Mbundus are known as very humble people.

  38. If these ladies are being used as claimed bysome bloggers, let them reveal who is behind all this, It could be true they are Zambians but remember even new passports are already in the hands of foreighners eg the so called chileshe, who is apparently a Nigerian. Trace their relatives, you will be tols they are all dead. Its indeed sad. This lady will be killed and in China its the law. Whether Chineese are sululu in Zambia that does not make it easier for this lady. A law is a law and thats it. Kimatata ahulu.

  39. Mwebena Zambia mulapapusha! Why should she be forgiven? Why should the government intervene? She broke the law period! She must have known it was risky but decided to take the risk. If the deal had gone through she would have been in money.

Do we know how long she had been doing this for? Don`t you think this is part of what is killing Africa-quick bucks? Let her die and for once let us learn to respect the law of the land you visit/live. It`s alright to drink and drive in Zambia, after all one only needs to pay the police £5 if arrested. In some countries you can lose your licence and there is no compromise.

  40. The next time a top chinese national will be nabbed by DEC for trafficking in nacortic drugs he/she should be abducted “threaten death” by Mary Musiyalike’s family and demand the release of Mary in exchange for the top erring chinese national. It is called trade off. Move fast the Musiyalikes.

  41. I am Lozi like bo musialike and I feel for her to get such a sentence. But one thing you should realise had she gotten those drugs into China did she have any feelings for the lives she would have destroyed. She knew drugs are prohibited in China but she decided she’ll take the risk so she is paying her consequences, Period!

  42. #53..perhaps u have a point..2.5 kgs of heroin..how many lives would have been destroyed.. how many murders,..rape cases as a result of being high..?

  43. #53..perhaps u have a point..2.5 kgs of heroin..how many lives would have been destroyed.. how many murders …several evil things …. as a result of being high..?

  44. In the first place how did she leave the country with those drugs ? are we safe in this country ? Let her pay for her crime so that next trafficing will be a problem for the would be criminals. What a way to make money

  45. The govt will do nothing in this matter unless it is ba teta or ba vj.Shame never the less a loss of a human life.

  46. Esi mwabona cwale, musali yo uyo shwela mwanaheni mwanaha ya batu. kuyo shwa lifu inge nja yamwa naheni. Too bad for you Bo Musiyalike. Kulata ahulu mashilin’i.

  47. Guys, we know she did something wrong, but i am suprised our fellow Zambians here are saying kill her.. honestly i think the Zambian givernment should stand up for this poor lady and come to an agreement with the Chinese government to let this woman serve in our prisons back home, instead of just saying Zambians should not do this in other countries; its true but the Minister of Foreign affairs should intervene and plead with the Chinese government to let this woman come and be sentenced back home. After all prisons are bad enough to do someone justice when they serve in their for a longtime they are as good as dead. I say the Zambian government should step in and stop this brutallity, let her be sentenced in prison for life or whatever. Zambians you should learn to have each others back

  48. instead of perpetuating hate. Thats why we can not progress because we follow the wind. Just plead to have her sent back to Zambia and be imprisoned there or whatever the reparcation. WOuld anyone be happy to get a family member in that situation? Or if for a minute one of you can think and put yourself in her shoes? She did something wrong she broke the law but the punishment is brutal. Punish her at home. Lets learn to stand for each other as Zambians. Minister of Foreign affairs step in and help!!

  49. thou shall not kill…. Chinese law is too much.. the 2kg 500g is too little to carry a death penalty. the lady need only 9months simple imprisonment. GO AWAY WITH DEATH PENALTIES… Human right is greatly abused in China :@

  50. China is dumping chemical and nuclear waste in Zambia everyday. Remember the Chambishi explosives saga? Why should one die over 2 kilos while Chinese are damaging our nation and putting lead in everything they make to shine but that will one day kill and create cancer in half our population but we do not hang them for that. RB, show your manhood, I mean tulange ubwaume bobe, I don’t mean go and have more kids like always do, but get this girl out of China and serve sentence in Zambia.

  51. Regarding this issue – can we as Zambians think of a way to stop this? This includes blogging to a website or whatever to get this decision stopped or exchanged for our own laws. We can have this woman punised back at home and be judged from home, if the chinese wnat they shoulkd never allow her int heir country as long as we have this babaric judgement withdrawn

  52. If the Chinese choose to go ahead with this thing i urge Zambians who are buying things from China to stop. A lot of Zambians are giving business to these guys and htey have no heart for our own?? This does not cut it. Abena Zambia mulleke ukushita ku CHina if they take that action, somebody stay on top of this story and spread the word

  53. why not protest and chase the Chinese investors if they can do this to our beloved sisters, We know , she did wrong , but this kind of punishement is too sturborn.

  54. “Mr. Nyawali has appealed to Zambians at home and abroad to desist from drug trafficking.” I thought this guy should be appealing to the chinese authority not to murder the zambian in question.

  55. china has too many pipo, so one way of reducing the numbers is to put in strict laws – steal one tomatoe! shot in the leg! drugs aaaaaahhhh! firing squad

  56. Zambians are knowledgeable people. She was aware of what she was doing and took a risk. She was caught and she should bear the consequences. Drug dealing is a crime against humanity.
