Management at Melissa Supermarket in Kabulonga has assured customers that the store will reopen after fire swept through the mega store on Friday morning.

In a message posted on its Facebook page, Melissa Supermarket management said they have lost everything inside the store as all the items were burnt to ashes.

“It is with a very heavy heart today we unfortunately will not be opening our doors in Melissa Kabulonga at 7:30 am to our customers beautiful festive smiles. Early this morning a terrible tragedy happened and we lost everything in our store to a fire! We don’t know exactly what happened yet, but luckily our bakermen escaped through our emergency exit and are all okay. We had 3 guards on campus and the Kabulonga police post there too and thankfully everyone was unharmed,” they said.

“By the time we were informed and came to the store it was already in flames and completely alight! We have lost everything inside the store! All burnt to ashes. We would like to call on all our customers to continue to support us in our other branches so we can come out of this and rebuild what we had once before.

We have worked many hours to get to where we were but would be nothing without the support and backbone of our clients.”

They added, “Some of you have grown with us and have supported us all through our time. Others have come recently and helped us blossom into what we were and still are today! We thank you for all the support you’ve given us over the years. We will rise again. We would appreciate your support in Melissa Northmead and Matero for the mean time and your patience until we rise up again.”

  1. Sorry guys – but glad you have taken heart. However, do invest in self-contained fire-fighting apparatus so that a first response will mitigate all-out destruction if, God forbid, there is an incident like this in the future. Chin up – take heart; we will continue to support you.

  2. Buy fire extinguisher and train workers and guards how to use them. They can fight the fire while waiting for the fire brigades to come INSTEAD of watching helplessly 🙂
