An inferno leaves Eight families homeless in Kalabo

An inferno has destroyed property worth thousands of kwacha consquently leaving eight (8) families homeless in Kalabo District , Western province.

The houses were burnt in Matondo village of Liumba Ward .

The affected families are said to be spending nights under trees.

ZANIS reports that Area Ward Councillor Mukumbi Iwano confirmed the development on Friday.

Mr. Iwano said the incident occurred around 10:00 hours when the children were burning the nearby  bushes.

He further explained that at the time of the incident guardians were cultivating in their fields.

The Councillor  was, however, happy that no life was lost.

He has since appealed to District Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity (DDMMU) to assist the affected families with food and other basic needs considering the onset of the rain season.

This marks 41 of the fire cases officially reported in the District this year alone .
