Following Governments decision to ground Mazhandu buses due to excessive accidents the family business has within a few days resurfaced under a new name Unlimited Gifts Limited.

The business name which is owned by the wife to Mazhandu was previously engaged in clothing but has now refocused it’s business to offer public service transport.

The buses first route are between Lusaka and Johannesburg.

Departure is on Thursday and Sunday at 09:00hrs.

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) on 1st February suspended the Road Service License for Mazhandu Family Bus Services.

Following a series of accidents with the latest resulting in the death of 10 people.

However, Mazhandu Family Bus Services have appealed to the Minister of Transport against the revocation of their licence.

And commenting on the appeal Minister of Transport Brian Mushimba said;

“….I advised and appealed to Mazhandu to join us in mourning the lives we lost in that gruesome accident versus focusing on their license at this time. I have just left one funeral house in chazanga and going to the next in new kasama.”

    • That’s why it is important to hold people in charge of businesses responsible for their actions.
The directors of mazhaandu should be prosecuted and not left to go scot free.
It is an insult to those that have lost loved ones on their buses if the directors can easily switch names and continue running death traps.
Then you have a member of paliament that wants to challenge the suspension of their licence?
      This is just nonsense!

    • Who offered licenses plates?
      Who changed the registrations?
And the president has no say, he knows who owns buses.

    • Thi sis stupid that after killing people, they are back operating under s different name?? Zambian Leadership should get serious. how does someone get granted a license without even some security / safety check?? those who lost their loved ones, we will fight for you. to make sure both PF and these bus operators are held accountable..

  1. Straight from Fred Membe’s Playbook of discredited Post Newspaper to Wife Managed Mast Newspaper. I guess it is legal in Zambia. But are those buses really road worthy? If they are then they have the right to operate on any roads.

  2. Pf top officials have a lot to lose in terms of brown envelopes should they stop running. It was actually state house officials who advised them on how to get round the ban. Kikiki Zambia is cursed. We hope tasila uses this bus so that lungu knows what it feels like to lose a loved one

  3. The guys have no heart for the loss of life they have caused. My question is,why must you pipo continue boarding their buses?

  4. We have only ourselves to blame …Like I have always said, in Zambia every Jim and Jack can set up a bus company easily simply look at how business name which is owned by the wife to Mazhandu that was previously engaged in clothing has now refocused it’s business to offer PSV transport. Banning this company does not solve the whole problem of accidents but tackling the core underlining issues will reduce accidents and force PSV owners to be more responsible.
Why are we not looking to introduce speed limiters on PSV, looking into insurance requirements for PSV, Driver training as there is too much corruption, why are we not looking driver’s working hours.
Here is a company whose license has been revoked by RTSA but they go to appeal higher up to the Transport ministry what does that…

    • the Transport ministry what does that say …everything is a total shambles no clear guidelines. We need technical assistance in managing and running the Traffic and Transport department; those people at RTSA and Transport Ministry are not equipped to handle this task.

  5. This is an insult to the deceased and bereaved families! It is now clear that PF is protecting wrong doors to set aside the Rule of Law with impunity! The Sata PF is long gone! You are now under PF Mafia government which cares only for money and not lives! The blood of those you have murdered is crying for Justice! Remember that!

    • Don’t split hairs. PF is mafia, full stop. Sata started this crazy, corrupt organisation and nothing has changed.

  6. Just that we don’t have proper journalists in Zambia. I am reading some reports that UGL has been in business for quite some time operating on the Lusaka-Jo’burg route. But Zambia being Zambia, where the role of a journalist has been hijacked by social media fanatics, devoid of journalism training, we’ll never know the truth.

    • The best thing to do is simply go to the registrar of companies and check or the Transport Association register and check when they started business but our Journalists are too lazy and would rather just press the submit button online like ZWD then go for drink.

    • True, am just wondering..most of our journalists are a bunch of lazy script writers, to some large extent
they don’t investigate issues, their reporting is guided by social media rumours.

  7. I THINK LET US NOT SACRIFICE HUMAN LIFE AT THE ALTAR OF LEGAL GYMNASTICS AND CHANGING OF NAMES. A WOOLF WILL STILL REMAIN A WOOLF EVEN WHEN IT HAS PUT ON SHEEPS CLOTHING. PEOPLE HAVE LOST BREAD-WINNERS, LOVED ONES, PARENTS, GUARDIANS. MANY WILL BE MADE ORPHANS, WIDOWS AND DESTITUTES. INSTEAD OF SHOWING REMORSE, ALL YOU DO IS CHALLENGE RATSA BY APPEALING TO THE MINISTER EVEN BEFORE THE PEOPLE YOU SLAUGHTERED ARE BURIED, YOU MOVE ON TO CHANGE NAMES ETC. ARE YOU BLOOD THIRSTY?

  8. Speed limiters on buses? I am not for it. A bus with a limiter will have difficulties to overtake and pose more danger to oncoming vehicles. Let’s dig to the ‘loot cause’ of the problem.

    • @Chalo Nkhanza – do you know what a speed limiter is? sadly people like you are the ones behind the wheels of these buses tired and hang over at the same time. Go to Kenya all buses have speed limiters …with speeds capped at 80 or 120 Kph….why would a bus be overtaking over these speeds.

  9. RTSA, there is technology now which can remotely track the speed of any bus on any route from the comfort of your offices since you say over speeding is the cause of most accidents. Just find out and put up a command center, and get the technology where you can even communicate with the driver and stop him driving at 140 km/hr

  10. If you value your life don’t use these satanist buses. It’s your life not Edgar ‘s or Mushimba ‘s. You’ve enough choices in transport.

    • If you value your life lobby govt to improve Road Safety laws…whatever this company is doing a hundred others are doing exactly the same!!

    • Don’t blame the roads otherwise if it were so we all be in accidents 24/7. If roads are bad you drive carefully instead of waiting for government which has got a lot on its hands. The Kitwe Kalulushi has been redone and you should the amount of unnecessary overspeeding and overtaking that’s going on.

    • zambian and africans alike lets be serious and act like ARABS when the say no to something or buying a certian brand the follow it so as zambians lets jsu avoid these buses so that they can know that power of the pipo and there calculations will fail so heed to my advise.

  11. SO, FOOLISH ZAMBIANS HAVE ALREADY STARTED USING THE NEW-NAME-SAME-COMPANY BUS SERVICE. MULI FIPUBA. THAT CAN’T HAPPEN IN SOME COUNTRIES. IS THERE ANYTHING LIKE CONSUMER ASSOCIATION IN ZAMBIA? STOP ANYONE USING THAT SERVICE OR ELSE YOU JUST EXIST ON PAPER.

  12. So what happens to the families of the people mazhandu keeps killing? Am angry this world but we can make a change why support the business because you don’t pay for luggage f.u.c.k that?

  13. Comment: people should stop taking these graves us buses and punish the owners ,its stupid even giving the a chance to apeal ,no

  14. The saving grace is that the buses are scania buses that are built for inter city travel, Zambia bureau of standard s should ban higer and those jong tong buses which are not designed for the distances they travel in zambia,RTSA should also move in and ensure the drivers are trained as PSV drivers and labour should also mandate the bus operators don’t over work the chaps lastly get rid of the night ban statistics show that most accidents occur during the day so if you have a makeshift bus+ tired driver + traffic queues on a major highway something will go wrong

  15. Let us do to Mazhandu what we did to CR. Anything coming in Mazhandu colors must be avoided. There are more serious alternatives. Moreover, for how long are we going to watch foreigners crowding us and prospering instead of promoting our own? Can you go to Zim as a Zambian and run a transport business? Let us create opportunities for Zambians also! It is Zambians that must develop Zambia! I wish the politicians could get this right. Avoid begging for investors to come when you can invest in human capital at home and develop the country.

  16. THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEIR IS NO RESPONSIBILITY. WE SERIOUSLY NEED TO CHARGE THESE GUYS WITH MANSLAUGHTER. PF IS TOTALLY USELESS. THANKS TO ALL THE LUSAKA AND CB VOTERS. NOW YOU ARE PAYING WITH YOUR LIVES. NOW WE KNOW WHO THE PEOPLE THAT PRACTICE SATANISM ARE. THEY ARE IN GOVERNMENT AND ARE SACRIFICING HUMAN LIVES.

  17. Please don’t limit the speed on these machines, just have sane drivers on the road. A machine without limit on its power simply eases past the vehicle in front of it. Explains why Mazhandu Higer buses (powerless buses) get caught on the wrong lane as they sluggishly try to overtake. You can’t say the same about a powerful Marcopolo bus from Euro Company which simply eases past another vehicle. One simply needs to drive today’s Hilux and Mazda do understand the difference between a low pick up and a high pick up vehicle. While a Hilux effortlessly overtakes, a Mazda labors to a point of being warned by flashes of headlights of the oncoming car. These weak Chinese buses are death traps, more so in the hands of a mis-judging drivers. Put speed limiters on them, you have killing machines…

    • I was exhausted –
      Mazhandu driver
THE driver of the Mazhandu bus involved in Tuesday’s
road accident killing 10 people claimed yesterday he
was threatened with dismissal for refusing to proceed to
Kitwe after travelling from Livingstone without a rest.
Vincent Haang’andu said he had argued with one of
the managers that he needed to rest after driving about
500 kilometres to Livingstone on Sunday afternoon and
back on Monday morning before he was asked to take
      another 300 km to Kitwe.
In an exclusive interview from his hospital bed at
      ?! ^ 4 @ 4}’
also rejected reports suggesting that the bus had a
      mechanical fault.
“I am not telling lies about the company but otherwise
I had told the one who allocates us the routes that I
      was not…

  18. Lusakatimes you’re fake en fake journalists. How do you make such public announcements without go en do investigation on why the buses are on road again. It shows that most of the news you give us are not true. You want ahead laying that unlimited gift belongs to mazhandu wife. By the way point of corrections. unlimited gift belongs to Justin en it was there 4 over 8years. Justin is a nephew to Mr mazhandu en was forced to be under. Investigate b4 you make pronouncements

  19. I remember Whitehorse buses who changed their name but got wise to it and never used their buses. The company eventually went under.

  20. I remember Whitehorse buses who changed their name but people got wise to it and never used their buses. The company eventually went under.

    • The Kangaroo judges will run out of time to hear it. This case will have a time limit of One Hour as most witnesses are dead.

  21. Has Mazhandu not listed or not registered the number plates of buses operating under its name?. If they have and the new company UGL has also got its own buses registered for this particular co. If not then that explains why these guys can change names and ask their wives to operate their businesses. Whatever the case, the long arm of the law will catch up with them.

  22. Comment:Its so rediculous to play with people’s life how can a sane person react in such manner when others are still mourning their beloved ones who demised through his automobile. I think this is not true story it is just a joke. Mazhandu pls this z not time for making money but be with the bereaved families after mourning time then you can come up with that idea of changing your business name if it befits.

  23. The Zambia- Johannesburg route is n child’s play. It is a long route, and fatigue can easily defeat a weak driver, especially at night.I hope this “new” bus service will not be using the same drivers who seem to have been so careless on Zambian roads. They might end-up killing more people on this lengthy route. …

  24. I like the stance the minister has taken. we are mourning our beloved ones and some funny lawyer in the name who is PF wants to have the licence restored. PF is a party of christians who feel it when a person dies. This bus operator baffles me so much …does he not feel it? That is the problem after killing so many and now it becomes normal. Uyu Mazhandu na so called lawyer tebena Zambia kumona fye imisango yabo. Bushe banwa umulopa wabantu mwa?iwe lwayer suppose your wife died in the same would you behave like this?
Minister put your foot down do not be like your predecessor who succumbed (or given the envelope) Now we have a minister that cares.

  25. This goes to show that Zambian Law is wack… Honestly how can people not be afraid and respect their own laws which governs them. So every time, some company is shut down, the next day, they will start operating under a new name, hence they are untouchable. What is this? Is this what ZIALE teaches its students.?

  26. The POST did by rebranding as MAST why can’t they do as UGL? Lol… I think they were advised to rename/rebrand. The company should sue UGL for copyright.

  27. Revocation of licences is not enough and not the ultimate solution to the rampart road carnage. It’s clear our laws have a myriad of loopholes which makes it easier for the culprits to circumvent punitive measures against them. The powers that be need to stump out the root causes of accidents.
What are the gains here when the operators can simply register another company and virtually run business as usual?
There is need to see to that drivers are properly qualified and are professional. Their training should be rigid not where conductors easily graduate to drivers without proper training.
Drivers too, need to be treated well by the owners of the transport companies. They need ample rest and better conditions of service. A demotivated and fatigued driver on the road is a real…

  28. I have read many comments valid and not valid ones. From my view the owner of the buses have no problems at all because they do not drive buses and it not in their interest to damage their property/assets. The law should be stiff on the drivers the way how it happens in the mines. The person in charge should
be sued not the company for putting lives on danger. Read the mines regulations it is very clear and all people working on the mines have safety talks everyday. I propose RSTA to develope similar regular regulations. Many people said it parking buses/trucks at night is not the solution, it is parking problems on the shelves.

  29. May be RTSA should start a graduation ceremony when issuing out PSV licences to Bus drivers and truck drivers.Mostly this is a group of drivers that runs the economy of countries as well as profit various companies.Under the current scenario e.g if one has a class C he only needs to upgrade it to PSV if he so wish as long as he/she pass some requirements like Age.So who grants such individuals the PSV driving licence? is it not the RTSA who issue PSV licences at a window? They must change all this. For one to get a PSV a Director of RTSA,some one Senior at the Ministry of transport and communication and as some one Senior at Anti corruption commision must sign a certificate before a PSV licence is issued out. if you start do so you will eventually see that there will be no Jim and Jack…

  30. First of all let me convey my heartfelt profound condolences to all who lost their loved ones in the accident.
    To the deceased RIP.
I am one of the travelers who go to Namibia from Malawi. I have more than Five times boarded Mazhandu Buses to Livingstone, or to Sesheke/Katima Muliro. Just as any other long distance passenger, I always desired to board fast buses, reliable ones and those that you are sure of replacement when one breaks down. Mazhandu just like Shalom have met all these aspects.

About accident, I am happy that everyone who has commented on this issue is talking about ACCIDENT. This means it was not a staged or deliberate incident. Unless the inquiry proves otherwise treat it as such.
I know that when there is loss of life people become emotional and at times loose…
