Minister of Works and Supply Mathew Nkhuwa says government has purchased software that will enable the Ministry compile a comprehensive list of properties and assets in Zambian Missions around the world.
Mr. Nkhuwa says there is urgent need to have a detailed profile of all government properties in foreign missions including motor vehicles and their values.
He directed all missions to compile information on properties to feed into the comprehensive data system.
The Minister of Works and Supply is in the US capital Washington DC on a familiarization tour of government properties and assets.
Mr. Nkhuwa who visited the Embassy Chancery building where works had stalled, expressed shock at the state of the building and called for works to resume immediately.
The Minister who was accompanied by the Charge’ d’ affaires James Chisenga visited the newly renovated Ambassador’s Residence.
He also took an inventory of motor vehicles.
He was told that the fleet comprised cars and vans all of which were five years or older. This had contributed to the high cost of running the fleet both in maintenance costs and insurance.
The Minister directed that the Mission to start the process of replacing all old vehicles with new ones.

The headline, the article are just something else. So before this software was purchased the missions abroad could not compile comprehensive lists of assets and properties? The headline implies that this software will work on its own, no data entry, just like magic it will be churning out lists of Zambia’s assets abroad. Then, it has to take the Minister to go to Washington to go and take inventory of the mission’s assets. Unbelievable! What’s wrong with us kanshi?
How much was that software, I can bet they paid thousands of dollars for a simple data base that can be produced by any zambian with simple software skills.
Even Commercially Such data bases can cost a few hundred dollars.
Software that can list and tabulate? Wow. Can I get a copy of this software too?! Oh wait, I have excel.
Minister each Embassy, Chancery has an asset register if these have not been being updated then even the latest technology wont capture all the assets bought for the use of embassy staff. And since Palan opted to sit on the concourt you mean Mr. President there are no persons capable of heading the DC office we rely on a CDF….
PLEASE PROCURE ALSO A SOFTWARE TO COMPILE A LIST OF STAFF IN MISSIONS AND THEIR QUALIFICATIONS !! TOO MUCH MEDIOCRITY!!
