Government says it will put in a specialised training programme for the national team to enable them go for extensive training in Europe.
And national team coach Herve Renard says Zambia still needs time to become a formidable team to qualify to the World Cup tournament.
Speaking to journalists at Konkola Staduim in Chililabombwe ,after Zambia lost 2-0 to Algeria in the 2010 Africa/ World Cup qualifier, Youth, Sports and Child Development Minister Kenneth Chipungu says Government has realised the need to facilitate a training programme for the national team in Europe.
Mr Chipungu said after witnessing yesterday’s match with the Desert Foxes of Algeria, there was need for Government to draw up a programme for the national team in Europe to further improve their scoring capacity.
And coach Renard says Zambia still needs time to make it to the World Cup as the current team was made of young players.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Renard stated that although national expectations where too high on the national team to qualify, the young players in the national team needed more time to make a mark at international competitions such as [quote]the world cup.
While he congratulated the Algerians for yesterday’s victory, the French coach said anything happens in football saying the chipolopolo boys still have a lot of chance to qualify to the world and Africa cup.
He said in yesterday’s game, the Zambia National team was not forceful especially in the front line to score goals.
He said all that remains was for the team to move forward and leave yesterday’s loss behind.
He said the free kick by Algeria’s Majid Bouguerra in the 35 th minute really disturbed the local team.
However, his counterpart Rabah Saadane told journalists that Zambia was still a strong team to respect.
Saadane said Zambia had a better ball possesion during the match but was not able to fully utilise the scoring chances.
The Algerian coach, who sat side by side with Renard during the media conference, said Zambia still has chance to qualify to the 2010 Africa/ World Cup tournament.
Algeria’s win at Konkola makes the desert foxes to enjoy group C of the qualifying group with seven points followed by Zambia with four points.
Africa’s reigning football champion Egypt are third with a point together with Rwanda but with a better goal aggregate.
And during the match at Konkola, Zambia opened on a pulsating pace which saw defender Jacob Mulenga forcing a corner in the first two minutes of the match after the Algerian Keeper diverted Mulenga’s strike for a corner.
Marksman Rainford Kalaba together with Given Singuluma and Felix Katongo tormented the Algerians but with little efforts to score.
However, the north Africans found a breather in the 35 minute when Bouguerra scored a header to silence the Zambians.
The goal did the Algerians some magic to take over the match by bombarding the Zambian team using the long balls that caught the local players napping at times.
After resumption, the coming in of Fwayo Tembo and Emanuel Mwayukwa set pace the game but was equally met with an alert striking force of the visitors who made it 2-0 in the 68th minute.

Pay the nurses….stop wasting money!
#1 Mukandeke i agree with you, let us first improve fundamental things like nutrition, health etc.
Iwe kapuli, first pay nurses and teachers for them to resume workbefore you embark on your fantacies.to you zambia losing to algeria has become a scum.UTH closing wards because of the strikes is normal and it does not concern you.you can’t waist money on people saving people’s lives but you can waist it on a bunch of fools masquerading as footballers.the only reason you want to facilitate this trip is because you will inflate the expense of the trip so that you rip off.those chaps wont improve no matterwhat you do.they already got inflated egos and you can inplant skill in an unskilled asshole no matter how muchyou spend.so before you rip off the nation abandon that dream.
I dont see the connectionn between coming to europe and scoring goals. Who in europe is going to teach them how to shoot at goal. I thought the P.E coach is from the same europe and the size of the goal posts are the same , infact i was told they even made the wider at konkola in the last game. So i agree with the above comments………..only to finish by saying its sh******* idea coming from a sh****************person who represents a sh*********govt run by a sh***************person
Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted
Why not invest in sending zambian coaches to european coaching academy’s instead of wasting money on foriegn coaches.
W.t.f? This is absolute nonsense of the highest order. We have a crisis in the nation and somehow resources wil be found to camp the team in Europe! Ok, that’s it, vote these i_d_io_ts out.
I have always against camping the National team in South Africa when they are preparing for a home game. They must start calling other tems to play preparatory friendly games at home so that players get used to preparing surfaces. I would agree team camping out in Europe because our country is very rich. They can lose about K27 biliion kwacha without noticing that some money is missing. What a govt? However the chance of beating Algeria is already gone, they have no strikers.
BUT BRING BACK HARRY MILANZI FIRST. AND MAKE NOAH CHIVUTA A STARTER IN YOUR LINE UP PLEASE!
Its like going for a workshop and hoping you get a college degree. The problem can not be solved by camping in Euro, the solution is improving the local leagues and youth sports in schools.
We are going nowhere, may be Africa cup.Even the coach himself knows that he has a young team that needs more time to qualify to the world cup.just pay our nurses and teachers and continue training on how to score goals right there in Zambia. Our problem in the squad has been that of scoring goals. everytime titambeko Bola you lose ba mambala.
This govt is really twisted – can somebody please interpret the word PRIORITY to RB
I’ve told many times we still need Bazungu!!!!!!!independence what?who wants to train a third rate team anyways?just disband the National team and start rebuilding from the rural areas on up may-be give it ten years then may-be we will have good administrators with brains and not empty heads…………….Just a sheer waste of public funds…………
waste of money- pay the nurses
#10 Kapoko, exactly my thought. While at that improve their training facilities. It seems nonsensical to go to Europe and still come back to same deplorable training facilities.
This government is determined to ignore the loud cries of the suffering Zambians at all costs. Their priorities are immorally mixed up, to waste money on camps for footballers in Europe? I agree with you #8, Zambia is very rich, the leaders can afford to steal billions of kwacha and get away with it. I think we need a peoples revolution to sort them out.
It is talent search we need across the country before we think of taking our players to Europe.
WANU NGWEE
I hope u r call about bringing back one HARRY MILANZI is just a mayor reaction from that blank strike force we saw y’day. Otherwise that guy no matter what circus he is doing wherever he is should not warrant his call to join the national team.the asshole is also blant such that he used to give us severe spasms with his blind misses if we had faint hurts we’d have been dead by now.so my breathren let’s look for talent in the mould of malaza the late than that weed smoker you talking of.we dont want to eat our own vomit or is he your kinsman? Finito
I don’t think it’s a waste of money to invest in sports. Football has changed a lot and the players need to be exposed to the contemporary style of play if they are to compete on international level.
Let the boys please come to Europe and learn the 2-2-4-2 combinination style that European teams currently play.
PS.: Nambala 1 Mukandeke, I’ve got a crush on you!
IWE CHIPUNGU KWENA MWABA SHANI BAMWANA RB. DO YOU NEED TO SEND YOUR STRIKERS TO EUROPE IN ORDER FOR THEM TO LEARN TO SCORE THEN WHY ARE THEY CALLED STRIKERS. DONT EVEN WASTE MONEY.FOR SURE YOU WANT TO GET A CUT FROM THAT TRIP. IMPROVE THE FACILITIES LOCALLY AND ORGANIZE FRIENDLIES WITH HIGH PROFILE TEAMS. NEXT WE WILL HEAR THAT YOU WANT TO SEND THE SUPPORTERS TO EUROPE TO TRAIN HOW TO CHEER THEIR TEAM. LEARN TO HAVE PRIORITIES AND RIGHT NOW SOCCER IS NOT ONE OF THEM. TAKE THAT MONEY KUMA NURSES. ONE DAY TUKAPONONAPOFYE GOVT OFFICIAL UMULWELE WHO WILL BE ABOUT TO EVACUATE TO S.A. WE KNOW THAT AMAKUFI NAYALWALA SO EMOTUKOMA MUMAKUFI YENE. BUSHE NI DORA ALENGELE AMAKUFI, WACHABE.
Forget about wasting money to train the national teal in Europe following “Government says it will put in a specialised training programme for the national team to enable them go for extensive training in Europe“, but use that money to buy good training facilities for the team and build stadiums. Also, organise friendly matches with teams like Brazil and other big national teams to end intimidation in our young players.

1P 3 + KJV Bible:
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
First build a national stadium and invest on training facilities so that you do not have to rely on well wishers all the time! common sense will tell you that Zambia is loosing or struggling when playing at home because of poor sports facilities. Please push for first class sports facilities for the country to even stand a chance of going to Africa cup never mind the world cup!
Even High schools in the US can boast of better sports facilities! Lack of vision…kutemwa quick money
Ba Chipungu Ibange mukaleke namukula.
just wasting government resources, the money better be converted to bursaries for university or college students, these footballers are retards, you might as well force them to go back to school.its not a question of skill but a mental problem
It is a shame that Zambia [chipopolo boys] lost what happened?????
Take the team to mansa or petauke and give the money to teachers and nurses.
those players are too thin and small. they need a good diet and strentgh and agility training. they can’t compete in that state of health
nine chale # 19 has a crush on # 1 but hedoest know that thats not # 1 picture or face. take it easy
stop wasting money it is these same trips that make them fail to tick.they have been camping in South africa which has good facilities and they came to play at konkola and you expect good results.please can we be realistic.
mr minister, listen to me. training facilities in south africa are good enough and cheaper by far. you are already doing this. use the surplus cash, which you seem to have for a very good sports psychologist like i told you!!
Its a pity that the powers that be only listen to football experts when the team loses. This means they only want to help in the heat of the moment. It has been said over and over and over and over and over again that preparation is the most important part of qualification. That preparation doesnt come at the last minute. A team camps and plays preparatory matches. Thats what Chipolopolo did with Danish coach Raold Poulsen. Thats why we could see the results then. Chipungu is a man who talks emotionally so he is never sober enough to assist Zambian soccer positively.
Priorities, and responsible govt.
Anything is possible with soccer, who would have thot the USA would qualify for the semi finals in the CONFED cup? but they did. So it is possible for Zambia to spring a surprise at Algeria. You go ahead Chipungu your plan is fantastic. It may not help the team now but it will sure help the team in the tournaments to come
There is really nothing o learn in europe ba Minister. That is medioca statement. You only need to develop players at home. Nga makula, nothing will change even while still in europe
# 35, let us learn to acknowledge a good intent. Zambia does need this training. Im sure since you are in RSA you have an idea how much the South African govt has spent on Bafana. To start with they have a $ 100 Grand a month coach. They organised friendlies in which they paid all expenses for the countries they played with. The RSA govt went out of its way to make sure the team became solid. And look at Bafana now, despite their lack of talent they are in the semis of the confederation cup. So it pays to invest even mu makula.
As a soccer fan i could not agree more with the minister. Despite doing this too late it is necessary for the future of our soccer. Soccer is no longer played with talent alone anymore. alot of issues come into play these days. # 35 CIAO, zambia does not hve a strong local league that is why training in Europe may be necessary.
why sending them 2 Europe? Our govt is crazy and really lack leaders to govern govt affairs.
1.I don’t see the reason Zambia camping in south Africa instead of Chingola where the were playing. It helps a team to get used with the ground and grass surface.what was the hell sending them 2 south as if we represent South Africa?
2.we have to build our own facilities.i can’t believe Zambia can fell to buy sport equipments 4 the nation team even it’s a poor country. Are u telling me always we’ll be s sending da team out of zambia 4 training?Aweeeeeeeeeee people be serious.
it’s like thinking Zambia we’ll never develop doing those stupid things. The $ we spend sending them out can be used to build good gym hence making our nation proud.
That’s why we can even host Africa cup…
38conti
That’s why we can’t even host Africa cup.useless minister
Before the match, Renard was bubbling with confidence that Algeria is gona go down. Zambia has gone to South Africa several times for so called training. You struggled beating Rwanda and you think you can play with the likes of Brazil for example. Bane let us be realistic. This was the only better chance Zambia had to make its first appearnce at the world cup stage. Africa has got 6 teams this time around and being staged right in our backyard yet we’ve failed to take advantage of it. We knew South Africa is gona host and we should have gone to Europe then to learn how to score if I may put it that way going by Minister Chipungu’s silly idea. Address the local league first and don’t just go to Europe to plunder the little monies that our country need. Renard has failed so fire him.
I hope you are focusing for 2016 and 2020 World Cups.
Kamba Kamba # 40. The same you would have been the first to complain if the coach had outrightly conceded that Algeria was going to beat Zambia. Rwanda is a good team and they were always going to go down fighting. They even held Algeria to a draw. You are too quick to fire the coach he is doing the best he can with the little infrastructure that is there. And by the way who told you that when world cup is in the back yard it is automatic that we should go there?
STOP WASTING MONEY YOU FOOLISH SO-CALLED HONOURABLES! HONOURABLE MY FOOT!!! PAY NURSES IF YOU HAVE DOLLAR TO WASTE, THEN TELL US ABOUT HOLIDAYS IN EUROPE. ISN”T IT ENOUGH THAT THAT RB TAKES ENTIRE CITIES ON EXCURSIONS AT TAXPAYER’S EXPENSE. NOW YOU WANT TO “SPREAD THE GOOD FEELING” TO OTHER RESULT-LESS PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU. IT’S OUR HARD-EARNED TAX MONEY, KEEP IT HERE.
Same old rubbish mentality of this RBB breed. Doctors were striking so he goes to have a MINOR operation in SA. Now all the cash we threw away in South Africa yields no fruit, so their ingenious plan is to waste even more in Europe!???!!! How pitifully dim can people get? Why don’t we use the Euros to build just one nice little ‘Goal Scoring Academy’ in Lusaka then? Hey, do brains actually atrophy as people grow old paste the age of 70?
We have always said stop playing against reserve teams in south africa. You win 9-0 and think you can beat Algeria! What a joke. And for for this Europe escapade, techakwesha! Priorities bane. One does not need to go to Europe to know how to score. Dalo chabe vibafana!!
#1Mukandeke that’s sense.
Stop wasting our tax money. The chaps were just not accurate at the goal. Those guys are great they had few shots at goal and accurately made good use of their chances. For now we dont have goal poachers. These guys can spend three months camping in europe for as long as we dont have goal poarchers the results will be the same. They Algerians had done their home work. Pushed for improved security and palying field at Konkola stadium and they got the results. We need to arrange for friendlies with other national teams and not just reserve clubs in South Africa. Score is a thankless job for the technical bench and players. All pipo expect are results. But sending the team to Europe for training does inspire me but arrange as many international friedlies as possible. Wish the National Best
I think Herve Renard is doing very good Job. All we need to train is on how to score. We still have chances. Let our National Team train hard on scoring. We missed nice opportunities in the Alg Vs Zambia
We don’t have money to waste…..especially that our players do not appreciate what is done for them. In terms of facilities S.A has almost the same facilities as Europe and we have a European coach and physical trainer. Problem is with our strikers they don’t seem to know what their role in the team is.
Ba zambia, lets pay our nurses pleeeese
No need to waste money on pretenders when the country is facing so many teething problems.Camping the team outside Africa should not be prioritised.Scoring problems can be solved if selection is on merit.Only a fool will expect to score against North African teams without natural wingers. We need fast and crafty wingers if we are to do better.I have in mind players like Clifford Mulenga ,Danny Hangunyu.Patron selection must come to an end. This is not a personal property but for all the people of Zambia.
When is Pivoty resigning ?
If one cannot perfect what he does day in day out ,the most honourable thing to do is quit.
