South Africa’s opposition Economic Freedom Fighters has strongly condemned the arrest of Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema.
EFF National Spokesman Mbuyiseni Quintin Ndlozi said in a statement that political intolerance often reflects political parties that are terrified of political contestation.
“The EFF condemns the arrest of Mr. Hichilema in strongest possible terms, particularly when such is political arrest and intolerance,” Mr Ndlozi said.
He said, “Despite Mr. Hichilema’s neo-liberal ideas that will not lead to much needed transformation of social circumstances and economic emancipation in Zambia, there is no need to arrest him.”
“The people of Zambia, through peaceful elections chose President Edgar Lungu, whom through political tolerance and harmonious contestation of ideas was able to lead an effective campaign. There is no reason enough that should lead to political intolerance, violence and arrest of those that we disagree with, despite opposing political views.”
Mr Ndlozi said the EFF will never tolerate political arrest and intolerance anywhere in the world, regardless of opposing views, particularly opposing views of political orientation.
“And we believe President Lungu had made progressive and admirable decisions to work with members of opposition party when elected in office to transform social circumstances and economic emancipation of people of Zambia, which makes the arrest of opposition leaders unreasonable, reckless and regrettable,” Mr. Ndlozi said.
Zambia has rule of law which everyone must obey.
When Mumbi Phiri, Kennedy Kamba, Davies Chama, and many others in PF obey the rule of law then come back and comment. Secondly, what law did Hichilema break?????

If you read carefully EFF does not support UPND and HH policies. They know that UPND is bent on capitalistic tendencies. There only concern is arresting opposing views. Yes agreed there is no need to do that. However what EFF has missed is that this arrest was not done without reason. The guy messed up and HH has continues to mess up ever since he lost the election. Unreasonableness comes in when there was no cause to arrest HH.

He thinks his two expired friends M7 and Mugabe will help him continue this kind of behaviour. This is Zambia. A land overseen the might Jesus. He who suppresses his people will not escape the wrath of God. Lungu time is coming and unlike your expired friends you will have to leave office and now you are good candidate for ICC.
The best Lungu can do now is leave that position he never truly won and knows he cannot prove in court instead of trying to put the country on fire. Why don’t Presidents ever think about their legacies? You would think after the bad legacies left by Chiluba and RB, ECL would be wanting to do better but no.
