Illegal emerald miner buried alive in Solwezi (updated)

A 46 year illegal miner of Solwezi District’s Ndumbwa area has died after the soil fell on him whilst illegally digging for emerald stones in an old pit approximately 12 meters deep.

ZANIS reports that Northwestern province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka confirmed today adding that the incident that happened on Thursday.

Mr. Daka has identified the deceased as Paul Mung’omba.

Mung’omba died from severe head injuries he sustained after soil from a pit wall of about 5 meters fell on him.

Mr. Daka says Police officers visited the old pit yesterday, found the body of the deceased miner already retrieved.

The body has since been buried and there is no foul play suspected.

  4. 99 jobs.. sad development zoona! lets respect illegal miners because they are not like people who are in government obtaining wealth which they did not work for. love, peace and justice LPJ must prevail.
