SEVEN people died on the spot while 18 others sustained injuries when a vehicle they were travelling on overturned on the Choma-Namwala road on Saturday night.

Southern Province police commissioner Bonny Kapeso said in a statement yesterday that the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Hiace minibus registration BAE 2682, identified as Brighton Hadunka, 46, of Mumbwa, lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed.

“Five passengers died on the spot, including the driver, while two others died whilst admitted to Namwala District Hospital with 18 others who sustained various body injuries,” Mr Kapeso said.

The accident happened around 20:00 hours. Mr Kapeso has since cautioned motorists driving at night to always exercise patience.

“Motorists driving during the night have been cautioned to always be prudent and exercise patience bearing in mind that they are carrying lives of people,” he said.

The bodies of the deceased are in the Namwala District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial.

Last month, 11 people died on the spot while 29 others sustained injuries in a night road traffic accident which happened at Munali Hills in Chikankata district.

The driver of the Hino truck, which was carrying people, livestock and assorted goods, is believed to have been over-speeding when he lost control of the vehicle which later plunged into a 10 metre gorge.

  1. There is no proof it was excessive speeding is there ?

Could have been alcohol, the road, the car itself.

The police should report facts not what they want to.

    RIP all that died.

    Thanks

    • Choma namwala road. These must all be tongas. Burry them with their voters cards. Rip.

    • very true Mushota our roads are small and the edges are have imimfolo (open drainage) plus pot holes plus people walking on both sides of the road. imagine we are borrowing money for roads but can not put pedestrian walks. Some accidents are because of negligence caused by corruption.
My sister I see unaikasha muzungu waku Scotland. I am seen umusungu also though OVAL HEAD thinks he is handsome. OVAL HEAD you need to bath hard with Geza or CHIKI.

  2. Looks like in ZP syllabus all accidents are caused by excessive speed. That’s why they don’t investigate causes of accidents bcoz it is predetermined!

  3. 1.1 HH OVAL HEAD. that’s offside. Wheras underfive and UPNDonkeys want to pretend to represent tongas the fact is not all tongas are UPNDonkeys. Well of course we know that underfive and his UPNDonkeys believe that only a tonga shall lead UPNDonkeys even as acting President, but not all tongas are bad people. Please our innocent tonga brothers and sisters, its bad enough that underfive and UPNDonkeys are misleading them especially those who vote.

  4. …meant to say please SPARE our innocent tonga brothers and sisters, its bad enough that they are victims of underfive and UPNDonkeys who are misleading them into seclusion, especially those who vote.
