Mupopo and Siame tumble in London

Team Zambia’s medal interests at the 2017 IAAF World Champions in London came to an end on Wednesday.

In the Women’s 400 meters final, Kabange Mupopo was second last after finishing 7th place.

The 2015 All-African Games 400 meters women’s champion clocked 51:15 seconds in a race won by Phyllis Francis of the USA who won the title with a time of 49:92.

And in the men’s 200 meters semifinals, Sydney Siame finished 4th in his heat and fell short of making the best losers slots for Thursdays final.

    • I knew it.. Qualifying for the finals was enough for them. I guess they will get a parade when they return to Zambia!

    • @Nubian Princess I also knew it that there will be some Zambian on this blog who will denigrate their fellow Zambians achievement. We are never short of people like you who find it hard just to give a simple hand clap but would rather rush for the negative sentiment.

  1. She clocked worse times than in the heats meaning she just didn’t strategise well. The coaches should have pumped her up to save the best for last. Next time girlie!

  2. For how long can this mediocrity be allowed to be the order of our strategy at all games? I honestly wonder why the government just can’t assign Samuel Matete to coach our teams for all these games! There isn’t any one better placed than that legendary powerhouse to bring glory to our sport. He was such an inspiration at his peak and his consistency was unparalleled. No wonder todate he still remains our one and only world champion.

    • Being a coach is a totally different ball game altogether. Just because he achieved a lot as an athlete does not automatically make him a really good coach.

  3. They did their best, especially with those harsh weather conditions which I think they are not accustomed to.

  4. How is it that Elias Mpondela is still ZAAA president. Bushe wamuyayaya. In his presidency, I have not seen growth of athletics at school level, no infrastructure, no grass root involvement. Among the many things we can not do as a country, are you telling me that running is one of them? Come on let struggle with making cars of our own, constructing our own roads, financing our own affairs, not running.

  5. WELL DONE GUYS! BEING 7TH BEST IN THE WORLD IS NO MEAN TASK. THE SAME GOES FOR LOSING IN SEMI-FINALS. WINNING HAS TO START SOMEWHERE.
